First time freestyle build

Hey everyone, I'm looking to build a new ski. I want to go with a adtermarket hull. My current set up it a SN superjet but my hull is garbage. I put a 701 in it with an ada head and b pipe. I would like to re use the motor in my new set up but am overwhelmed by all the different sets ups you can do. I only ride on my lake in Michigan. No surf riding. Any one with any advise for me?

Which side of Lake MI on you on? I am in WI, we have EME Roid hulls in stock (And on sale) also a Rickter Dealer.

What are your end goals? Flatwater Flip? Boat wave flip? Free Ride?

Let me know if I can help.

Mostly just flat water I guess. I just want something lighter. That I can jump and and maybe flip. I dont wanna spend alot. I'm looking to buy a used hull. And like I said re use my 701 from my superjet. Im also wondering what pump would be best to pair with my 701?

"Dont want to spend a lot" "a lot" varys from individual to individual. Cant suggest a hull without knowing a budget.

Not knowing much about the sport. Would probably be a good idea to save up and buy a used RTR ski like Tpete

From my experience, building a ski using real old parts turns into tons of headaches down the road. Specially when you get into flipping etc.

Sell your SJ, add that to the currency you have set aside, buy the "RTR" ski you can afford as they are a good value today imo. I prefer carbon hulls because you can always add power, pretty hard to make a glass hull carbon, feel me? You will probably learn more taking apart a "properly" built A/M boat than swapping a SJ drive train into a hull. If you are gonna get into the A/M ski game don't be attached to the dollars you have or try to "cheap" out, always leads to grief. Just a few thoughts, good luck and have fun.

Buy once Cry Once. Best bet is to make it to some big rides where you can see and ride some different skis to see what you like. If going cheap you will be looking at Hurricans, Bobs, Phantoms, Carve, Piranah, etc. And stay as far away from eme hulls as you can.

Not trying to start anything, I’m honestly just curious. Why stay away from eme hulls?

Selll the SJ complete and buy something with the bugs worked out. If it's your first build you'll loose another season trying to piece it together and make it run right

Like said spend the money upfront or waste half your ride time trying to fix your ski. 10k gets you a rtr ski which would cost around 15k to build used.

Chances are you're going to make some mistakes with wrong parts etc and that build will cost you more than just buying a ridable ski.

Is it because people buy the older used kawi based eme hull and try to put their Yamaha drive in it ??

That’s what was tripping me up with my q8 build. But I got in touch with the right people and realized that leaving the hull set up for a Kawasaki is the best route. There was not a ton of information on how difficult it would be to convert to Yamaha. But other than sourcing the carbon fiber eme bed plate I can’t find information on the eme being anymore difficult to build than any other aftermarket hull.

Wait a couple more months before a purchase.A lot of guys will start selling their skis at that time.
Have to agree, every a/m ski has their little issues (some bigger than others). But go ride a few as others have said.Look at the Freerides coming up and go to the nearest ones to you.lt will be well worth it on your bank account
