First time MSD Total Loss Install & Setup

I picked up a complete used MSD Total Loss dual channel system (2530) early in the year and want to get the thing going to install. I have the install directions for the electrical schematics and everything which I think I can get through, but the finding the TDC part is eluding me.

I'm not really sure what I need to do this, and how to go about it and any pointers would be a huge help.

I tried the spark plug think but I used a non fouler piece from advance and drilled the hole out a bit more

You bought an ignition system worth $800-$1000 and don't want to spend $35 to make sure your timing is right...? Why not just go back to stock ignition...
Seriously, dial gage is a good tool to have. Find your TDC and mark your advance with it; no degree wheel needed.

My jet ski piggy bank is quickly evaporating with my build so saving a few bucks here and there goes a long ways.

I don't own a degree wheel but I print one off the web every time I set up a TL. I find one that measures real close to FW diameter, print it, cut it out and a center hole and tape it to FW with my degree marks matching the MSD marks already on FW. As for a TDC gauge, that's one of those things you'll need and reuse with TL systems and periodic rebuilds. Just grab one from harbor freight and be nice too it. I bought mine 8 years ago and it still works fine.

TDC should be the piston closest to the flywheel at its very most top point? (corect me if im wrong, its been a while since i timed my TL) but i just went old school and stuck a screw driver down the plug hole. turned the crank untill the screw driver was at its absolute highest point.( there will be a spot where it doesnt raise any higher but the fly wheel will turn a few degrees) just get it in the middle of that spot and you should have your TDC mark. scribe the fly wheel and outer case to make TDC marks. time from there.

Doesn't the Flywheel have TDC and degree markings on it already (the little dots)?

Yes.

I agree with last post too....scribe a mark on cases to acknowledge the TDC mark.
