You know that dosen't look like it would be totally ridiculous to fab up,maybe use Jetski havens brace,it looks like they are using the stock steering arm and attaching to that and drilling and tapping the stock shaft,I would think you could make something functional but not quite as pretty.

I am sure it saves some weight, not sure how much. I know Shawn isn't running a sub plate. The one in the pics is not a stocker for sure! If you look at the bulk head, they must have pulled a mold of of a stock one. I would say that cable tube is for the trim to use it with their machined trim do hickie. If I was doing a full out aftermarket hull, I would just do the trim like how people do on stand ups.

I think they put in everything but the kitchen sink to give you more options,I see three cooling-bilge tubes, the stock trim cable setup,a scupper and a rear exhaust, impressive!

Butti or Demon,

You guys have any pics of the steering system under the hood? I never got a chance to really look over the ones Mark had laying around. Is it an off the shelf cable? On top of looking into a fixed steer FX, I need to redo the steering for my lightweight and I'm very interested what you guys are running. I am running an 89 X2 direct steer right now. While it actually works awesome, it has to be reinforced or it will break (like mine is now). And its not an easy to find part.

i dont have a pic handy but it is a very simple direct steering system that uses the stock sj cable.it is just like a b1 steering only built out of billet.

Shawn, the japanese guys have a direct steering cable setup for X2's. They use a long cable like a stand up. Then they use the Maekawa brace. There is then a clamp they attaches to that brace that holds the steering cable in place. There is also a longer steering arm like on the Accusteer. Here is the Jet Wave ad. I also attached pictures of the Maekawa Engineering 650 X2 hull. I believe they quit making them. I remember on their website once that they said they were done making fiberglass parts.

THANKS DAVE!!! Thats really freaking cool stuff! Damn japanese always have the sickest ********. That really gives me some ideas though. Correct, I dont have the subplate. I had the direct steer sloppilly reinforced...its my fault for not getting a good tube to keep it from flexing. It worked REALLY well before it bent in 1/2. I just want to find another cable that I can order brand new, unlike the 89 X2 cable.

fx1's dont need to be lightweight...they are light enough as it is....

there has been talk of an fx1 conversion hood in the past....I dont know if anything ever came of it but........

Tricky1 has a 140 mag in an fx1 (and its probably paired up with a Lamey) so imagine the possibilities there :fing02:

From what I have seen...B1, X2 and conversion guys all relate....pole guys are pole guys

I always figured the fixed steering preference showed alot of mx/bmx style history....pole guys are just different altogether, as there really is nothing else like it

Did anyone ever do this? Or am I about to be the first? I have a perfect spare FX-1 in the back yard and a hood and steering of a VXR pro. I'm going to mold part of a stock pole and the top section of the VXR together onto the FX hood. It will all pivot on the stock mount for a super strong hinge. My plan is to deepen one set of chines a little for better cornering. If it all goes well, I'll mod the pump. I'm calling it the FX-2.

All I need is a sacrificial FX hood (mines too pretty to kill) and a broken RN style pole. If anyone can help me find those parts, please let me know. The worse condition the better.

i love the concept idea behind this. especially for the 650sx hull. just due to the fact that locally a stock 650 runing sells for about $500 and this seems like a great way to open up to a new trick set fairly cheap

closin in on finishing the squarenose conversion and sxr conversion I can tell you why it never went down. Its a lot of work and fx1's are not plentiful. while the sx seems like a good idea I personally think it wont fly. except for a lazerjet I believe I have ridden all models of standups and a 650sx is not a bad riding machine but its far from light and powerful. if you really want to make it work then use a 550. now those are damn near free, take a bigger powerplant and are way light. If you can get a better pump that would be a fun ride. lol

I like the fx1 and a fixed steer would be cool. but I got plans to do up that hull right first. then maybe think about a conversion- maybe. Im ready to ride and more molds is not sounding like a lot of fun just right now.

BTW- way to dig up an old thread

Here's a very rough mock up. I'm also thinking of using my Square as I have the broken pole and extra hood already.

I got a 100 bucks shipped for a broken SJ/FX-1 pole and a nasty beat up FX-1 hood. Some body has to have those laying around. I just need the firt foot or so of the pole and the hoods getting cut to pieces anyway.

lol i just posted up a simular add on craigslist and got slammed with beater skis. from shell's to non running completes lol. looks like rotax powered js550 with a fixed hood may come sooner than though. i really want to do freestyle motox style stunts. dont know if i can get the height but a kiss of death would look wicked on a ski :D

Yea, i know what you mean. I used to do kan kans and such with my pole. I even used to let go and spin around 360 in the trey. That all ended with a 'Nothing' 30 feet in the air in Jacksonville. I missed the bars and went crashing into the ski. Broke my right Fibula and wrenched my left ankle. I hit so hard it actually twisted my AC pole a couple degrees. Needless to say, I rarely take my feet out of the trey. This fixed steer FX-1 might be a blast. If you find the parts, let me know. I'll try craigslist too but I doubt I'll find an a FX-1 hood there.

Test the concept by fixing the handle pole with foam blocks and a strap. Then install upright mounted MX bars. This is an easy way find the best height and position of the bars without doing much work or modding the hood. I think an fx1 is too tippy if the bars were high enough to ride comfortably, but it is worth trying. I have recently moved my x2 steering back 12". Made the ride much dryer and comfortable, no more wrist pounding or hard flat landings.

Thanks. Ive been mocking it up for almost a year now. I think I have it just where I want it. From there, its a matter of how tall the bars are. With the stock VXR bars, a 6" guy like me stands just slightly hunched like I would on an X2. My feet are just about an inch more forward than on my other FX-1 which will be good for surf since it's fixed steer. I don't understand the tippy point though. Once on plane, the tippy part goes away. Unless your talking about when its sitting in the water. That could be an issue. Maybe I'll duct tape it all together and do a test float first. LOL

that sucks about the broken parts man... makes me leery of trying new tricks lol, but its part of the risk we take. as far as the tipsy point, to a certain extent you want it to be a tiny bit unstable. makes it much much easier to toss around and make go where you want, same reason most guys on freestyle motox start on a 50 or 125 cc bike, so they can manipulate it. ill keep an eye out for fx1 parts but i really dont see much of that stuff around here. for me to find a sj or my 750sx was difficult lol. but hey if u want anything from a 300-650sx they are littered everywhere lol. just today found 3 ski's (don't run 2 have engines) for $500 lol. all 550 hulls.

I was thinking an fx1 conversion would be harder to stay on top of at high speeds with high fixed bars. I was considering a 650sx conversion until I moved the bars back on my x2. It went from a boat that I didnt like to one thats about to get a 750 installed.

my question is more what engine do i want to use since it will be already some weird bastard configuration :p i think i still have the shaved head and other goodies around from when i returned my 97 gti back to stock. that thing was gps verified at 52 mph and she was a tank :D
