Super Jet FL "winter" build- superjet RN- shortened, widened, rockered

See if it's compatable with poly high build. If so, you can do additional layers in poly. Epoxy in any form sands poorly. Probably best to put down the epoxy on the hood first anyway since nothing seems to bond to a stock hood.

I'm by no means a paint expert but if you have runs you are probably laying it too thick. Try reducing your fluid which is the adjustment directly oppositite of the tip, turned clockwise. Be mindful of your overlap too since that makes it heavy. Have to be extra careful on the more vertical surfaces. Not a bad idea to let a pro lay down the base and clear. I might do the same when the time comes for me to paint. The one time I sprayed clear it ran way easier than primer does.

My gun is only a step up from harbor freight and my experience is limited. My main problem is orange peel but I think a lot of that is the limitations of cheaper guns. I'm sure they pros wouldn't use $800 guns if the $40 ones did the job right.

Yeah I can spray urethane primer on top of this to make it more sandable and user friendly, but I'm not sure if that's how I want to go yet, I guess we'll see when I start sanding this

I'm not super experienced with paints. Why not the urathane or poly?

Idk. I don't have much experience with it either. I just don't want to start mixing and matching chemicals yet, although urethane primer on top of epoxy primer is a very common one

I think the Primer I had must have been Urethane Primer. Do not remember it being epoxy, at least there was no mixing of a hardener with it. But it just laughed at sandpaper!

That's odd bc urethane is suppose to be much easier to sand. I'm just gonna use water or grease/wax remover when I sand

Epoxy primer is a good choice. The stuff we prime our frac pumps with at work is bomb proof. It also works great as a primer for multiple paints from multiple manufacturers. To save money we ended up doing an ASTM adhesion test with multiple paints and primers on top of it and all passed with the highest classification (no chipping, flaking, peel away etc.). I'd still recommend you check compatibility but generally, once cured, epoxy is pretty much inert and most stuff will bond to it.

The ski is looking damn fine BTW!

Good info, and I really appreciate it!

The primer sanded very well, and I filled the small imperfections with spotting putty and sanded it all smooth. This time around the primer sprayed a lot better except it coughed and splattered once which is annoying, but it will come out tomorrow.

Nothing new or exciting just trying to get it perfect before the base coat

I got all the paint on yesterday. I'm not complaining since it was my first time using a spray gun. I went with SS urethane and decided to clear coat over it since my paint is metallic. I also knew I would get orange peel, and it's easier to sand the clear coat rather than the metallic SS. I'm happy with it, but I'll start wet sanding tomorrow to remove all the peel and make it really shine.

I also love how the rocker turned out, very smooth and worth all the hours

Sweet! Looks fantastic. Did you repaint your hood or is that the original color that it was?

Thanks, and no I repainted it. I had painted that hood wayyy to prematurely before, so I stripped it again, which is a very annoying job but worth it. I'm might go with a lowered hood in the future but couldn't justify the price right now
