flatwater friday

gonna be 1 of 2 places. 1st location isnt on a river but it is usually fairly flat is the Willoughby Boat Ramp see link for address. http://www.norfolk.gov/index.aspx?NID=745 . or the one we used last year is Portsmouth city park at 140 City Park Ave, Portsmouth, VA 23701 the only problem with portsmouth city park is there is a toll now at the tunnel. The advantage to norfolk location is no tolls and all interstate driving. both are about the same distance travel time. I ride at both locations alot and very minimal police presence. If i were to pick i would suggest the norfolk location. JUST KEEP IN MIND THAT THE FLAT WATER AREA OF EITHER SPOT IS RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK. THERE ARE NO PERMITS FOR THAT PART.

A permit to section of a portion of public beach for an event, and insurance, I get that. Was this just an FYI saying there's no insurance and what have you?

Yes. The flat water site IS NOT covered by the event permits. Same as it was in Daytona this year. Ride at your own risk. Va requires a Pwc license, and no wake speed within 50 ft of anything other than another Pwc (boats, piers, no wake zones, channel markets, etc). Additionally, reckless operation is at the officers discretion.

That said, last year was uneventful.

I would vouch for Willoughby. For anyone coming from the west, or DC area, it's on the way, literally right under I-64. There's a good amount of parking, two wide ramps, two small sections of sandy-ish beach, and water.
Just be careful of some rocks in the beaching area, and parts of the bay can be very shallow during low tide. Us locals who are out there can guide you though.

I'm moved by DASA power!
Tyrant, we always roll down Thursday after breakfast, we get there around 12-1 pm and start setting up shop. If the surf is nice we ride for a few hours. If not we just drink and have dinner. our favorite day of riding is friday before things get too crazy. Nothing ruins a weekend like somebody running into you and Saturday can be a bit crazy.

Cool. I'll get friday off for sure. Dunno if I want to get a Thursday off too. Tempting. I'm not much of a surf rider but I don't mind pretending to be one. I'm just sad it's 4x4 only area.

What are you sad about? No cars are allowed on the beach. The hotel's parking lot is right across the street. Doesn't matter what you drive to wave daze, so long as it gets your ski to the boardwalk!
