Super Jet Flyinb501's RN SJ shortened hull and defoam thread

I glassed the tray back in last night. I forgot to take a picture of the foam after it was all finished unfortunately. I think I did a pretty nice job with the foam though. It took forever!

Finished installing the Xmetal trim, pump, etc. New motor is in and shimmed. Tray is glassed in. First I used marine epoxy to glue the tray back in place. Then I went over the seams with 18 oz cloth. Should I reinforce the seems more? I think it's good, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

All finished. I ended up reinforcing the seams more. Better to be safe than sorry.

I think I definitely have as much throw as possible. I grinded and grinded and grinded everything I could. My bored exit nozzle is pretty thin at the edge in some places now.

I threw this together in a hurry so I still want to to clean up all the lines a bit.

Riding impressions:

Well it was just about at the bottom of the lake after the first 5 min. I had the siphon line hooked up wrong so it was pumping water in instead of out and my bilge wasn't working. Water completely filled the engine compartment and the bottom of the hull. Luckily my buddy's pontoon was right there. I was puzzled at first at how water got underneath the tray, but I think I did a bad job sealing the exhaust because I did see water coming out there as I was draining it.

Anyway, got the siphon plugged up and the bilge fixed. Then finallyl got to test her out. I'm very happy with the new motor. The thing RIPS! I was launching off my setup wakes twice as high as last season. The trim is super nice too. It's not too hard to pull and works great. I thought it was kind of a bitch to install though, but in the end happy I went with Xmetal. The ski seemed to ride a lot lighter even though I was taking on some water under the tray. The shortened hull definitely makes a noticeable difference. The ski is much more nimble, and it seemed easier to jump off the small setup wakes. It does make the ski less stable though so you have to work a little harder at balancing.

All in all the build has definitely met my expectations, and it's like having a whole different ski. I probably only burned about 2 gallons of gas yesterday and I'm pretty sore.

Thx B. I'm missing that engine. Stop here on ur way to Daytona and let us rip on ur ski.

I don't have anything planned yet, but definitely interested... Still picking up your Trinity this weekend? We're talking about spending next weekend on Tonka. Taking the pontoon out, and Dusty's BOB should be ready.
