foam fixer?

ok @ the end of last ride season my footholds were really hurting my feet so i decited to remove them and install some newer footholds
well once i had them out i relizied that this isnt just gonna be a foothold jub but a FOAM job as well
id rather have to replace my crank than f... with the foam
so now its 5 months later
id say 1/2 of my foam was wet , like a granny smith apple mmmm but stank like a bunghole:)
ok ok i got most of the tray out and is say 97% of the old foam out
heres my q
anthing i really need to do before i start my rebuild?
ski is a 95 sn , i have had this ski since it was a newborne
has a blowsion 1 way valve already in
trim tube already in from back in the day when it was a race ski
whats everyone reinforcing the rear of their skis with? both sides?
im no flipper ot twirler but i do like to jump! high
this is the 2nd time i have broke my tray
when rebuilding the tray should i reinstall the pieces i cut out or just build a new tray?
sorry for all the rookie Qs but this sux so bad i want it to be the last time i ever see the inside of my tray

Jason, I'm still a noob too when it comes to refoams, but what I have learned from the vets that seems reasonable to me is:

1. No matter what you do something will leak into the tray area, if you have a scupper maybe footholds, I guarantee it
2. No matter whos foam you use if will hold water, even if you install drains, Johnny claims he once had a SJ he hung from a tree and it dripped for two years.
3. I'm not sure on this one, but have been told that one layer of cloth will always leak.

The Lord panel fusor 101 ez, or similar that Frosty uses is great stuff. I just reused the old cut out tray.
I always try to figure that in life nothings perfect, so plan for failure of whatever you are making and there wont be as many dissapointments. My recent foam/returf job was a complete failure. I should have used 5200, I used 5 min devcon epoxy to seal the lines, 5900 to seal the rest. Big mistake. The lord panel fusor may be leaking also, but it takes 2 seconds to drain my tray and its very stable.

My next one will have all dow foam with drains. I spent forever sealing my tray and could tell it was leaking after my first ride.

What footholds did you pull out? My REV's hurt my feet. I wouldn't mind re-shaping them but don't want to pull my turf off.

yep, not huge but first ride in daytona was like a quart or two of water. It settled down by Sat, maybe it was the 30 deg temps. Once it warmed up it was less than a qt for the day. We'll see what happpens here in a few weeks. A qt a day is no biggie, as long as it all comes out when I pull the plugs. The styrofoam really shouldn't hold water, just like the Kawasaki SXR style. If it becomes problematic, i'm gonna install the small scupper ball setups. Then problem solved. Like I said always have a back up plan. :fingersx:

brian that totally sucks!
i cant find that nice thick foam anywhere down here
so...
what im useing is the foam that yamaha is putting between the new couches and the steel crate
it doesnt absorb water ,strong as a mofo and best of all its FREE
but i do feel funny about pulling off a piece of foam off a crate

i refoamed my RN is Aug and I just checked, damn thing is soaked again, just weighed my bare hull, no hood and it's at 135lbs! I'm gonna run no foam and a draining and keep the hood on tight!!!:naughty:

Just cut it up and fit it like a jigsaw puzzle. One layer of 12 oz biax on the sides in the back. Put the tray back in and one big sheet of 12 oz biax accross the tray and up onto the sides will reinforce that. You can lock the poly in with some pour in foam and put some drains in too while you are at it.

Call around I'm sure if it's shown on the website they can get it shipped to your local store for free. It's much easier to work with 1" or 2" than 3/4" although the 3/4" will cut faster, so...
