It's time to re-foam, re-foothold and re-shape the gunwhales a bit...

I'm really looking forward to it :Banane01: :Banane01: :Banane01:

Anyway, Rob and I both have to do the dirty deed, so I was thinking while we was forced to do such a horrible thing we should try and make the best of it.... I want to do a little experimenting w/ the gunwhales and make the tray a little user friendly to my huge size 13 feet.... my feet barely fit in the tray from side to side right now, so I will be hollowing out the tray a bit I'll try to make some images to show what I want to do. I am not gonna remove the gunwhales totally, I just want to lower them a bit...

The goal is to have more actual room to move my feet around in the tray and give the gunwhales a little lower profile....

Nice! Interested to see what shape you create. Last night I was having a few drinks in the garage and drew on my SJ with a marker. Its not the WCF style gunwhale we are seeing a lot more of on SN's. Its a little different.

I just hope I can get it done, and get pictures up before someone else does it

I have been toying with the notion of radiusing heavily the area where your shin goes, but never thought much about dropping the whole gunwhale. I was thinking since I like my 1 inch pad on the tray so much, how much carving would it take to pad the ankle/ shin area? like when you drill a hole and then roll the drill around in a cirlce it makes that cone shape, like that. also Me and wavedemon had discussed angleing down the foot to ease the ankle injury. would require the exhuast relocation some, but for some of you this is not an issue.

I went with the wider tray notion. What's the thought behind lowering the gunwhale line? Is it simply cosmetic or is there a technical reason? I too drew on my gunwhales with a sharpie to play with a new "lower" line, but I just couldn't see a functional reason for it so I stayed stock.

I like the idea of a wider tray. Georgia Scott has widened his much like Special FX & in conjunction with his Tubbies it really makes a RN carve!

LMK when you start, I wanna check it out in person for when I do mine. Didn't someone on here say he defoamed w/a wire brush in under an hour?

my tray will be something like what Scott Stevens did to his.... It's sooo sweet.

Just imagin yours w/ the material removed above the recessed sections forward of where you lock you feet in at. I think it would look strange w/ basicley half of the funwhale removed and still keep it the same height... I think it will make can cans easier, but thats not an issue... I just want to make my ski more fitting to my riding style... Gunwhale's will probably be chopped down about an inch or so... Just need to work out a few things.

yo...

1. i have some wire brushes left over from my defoam...as well as a cople of LONG drill extensions to get down into the bottom..Ill bring em for ya this weekend....The total foam removal took about 4-5 hours once you dig out all the little crevices.......and I removed all my tray/sides in 2 pieces....made it VERY easy to glass back into place...

2. make sure to do a fatty kicktail.......bill and I layed 4 layers of turf on mine and I freakin' love it

3. have fun!

ps...everyone says remove the exhaust tube...I didnt bother, and it wasnt a big deal.....still was able to seal up the old screw holes and getting underneath the tube was no biggie...

Very Nice!:Banane01: I would like to round off the back corners of the gunwales more like an SX-R though (fewer bruises... ).
