Well by now, I'm definitely sure that people have been experimenting with all that plush pad that all these huge footholds are requiring now. The majority of older threads have been about a flat tray with no kicktail or wedge, and not really a customized pad job, and I'd say by now it's time for another thread involving custom pad jobs, and what you've been doing!

As of this winter, I'll be running tom21 footholds designed for super thick pad. I've got a sheet of 26mm, and a sheet of 9mm pad that I'll be using. So far I'm planning on 26mm on the bottom, 26mm on the top of the holds, building a wedge/kicktail to go underneath my heels, also plan on making a ring around the sides of my feet with around 9mm pad+turf so my feet are basically in a pocket.I'll also pad where the side of my ankle touches the holds, etc.
I like very snug holds that take a good kick to get into. I'm also planning on shaping the pad on the inside top of the holds to go over the outside edge of my foot as well, and make a little bit of a tunnel on the top.

I have pretty small feet(size 8/8.5 ish.), and with socks on, and 26mm pad+turf top and bottom, I can easily get my feet in the holds. With wrestling shoes & neoprene socks, I think it'll be tight enough. I'll put up some pics in a minute of the holds with 26mm pad top and bottom that I just mocked up.and it'll give you an idea of how big toms holds are!

What have you guys been doing with padding lately, especially with aftermarket hulls that come with huge holds to begin with? I think it'd be interesting to see everyone's setup and ideas, along with what you're using to shape it, etc.

The KDX/DVX hulls at Daytona had some serious thought out padding ideas. Sorry didn't take pictures but maybe someone will post them.

I was lazy and didn't use padding on my last foothold turf job. They killed the tops of my feet. So bad, that I had to stop putting my feet all the way in and use more of the sides of my feet cause top of my feet were purple and bruised so bad. Learned real quick!

Pause the video at like 17 seconds and it gives a pretty good visual of the DVX holds. Might be a little over the top for a squarenose, though, Roseand. The trays aren't nearly as big, so if you get really extensive with your padding and stuff, it will make the time when you aren't in the holds annoying. If you want to get that crazy, might want to consider widening your tray. SNs aren't freestyle machines.
9mm pad around it would be fine tho, I would stick with that plan.

Tom21's holds already reach the outside gunwales, so I can't really widen my tray with them, unless I modify them to the extreme. I'm not going to go crazy, but I'm going to do a quality, comfy padding job that makes sure I'm locked in securely. I'd like to see some pics of heal wedges as well. I think @Brian_216 had a heel wedge setup that looked like it would be comfortable for long periods of time.

My superjet last spring went okay, I think. I can't credit myself with a lot of the work, but I did help a bit. If I did it over again, I would have used a bit more padding.

Then finished. Not super impressive like some of the aftermarket hulls, but I couldn't thank my friends enough for all the help.

slightly off/on topic question I've been wondering.... what size padding do you use covering the whole tray floor?
black, plush, 26mm pad.

Looks good! Did you have a seem instead of the holds?

Are you guys not concerned with getting "locked" into your holds at all?

I always think about how much recovery time l would have if l got stuck in one.

Edit: l mean recovery time as in how long it would take me to get over an injury
