mount em and post em up!

need a ski first.. Matrix in a month.

They look plastic. I doubt epoxy will stick well if they are. Pete, what are they actually made of?

They look like a plastic type.
I think some 404 epoxy on the bottome and then lay over with some glass of carbon.. done.

I will post in a build thread.:friday:

those do look nice,I need to move my rear strap,Its currently screwed 2 metal bar that is epoxyed to the tray, has failed once already. I dont wana rip any more holes in the turf and padding now,Ya think 3 stainless # 14 course thread screws per side of the strap would hold straight through the tray, till I get around to refoaming turfing the ski?

I have heard once you pierce that tray past whatever inserts you do, It will leak and get water logged quickly.
Think about how often your tray is under water.. and how much pressure that has of shooting water into the drilled spots with the pressur of ski weight and person weight sinking the tray..

I would say that extra weight would stink.:splatt:

dont the inserts go all the way through as well, their depth looks deeper than thickness of the glass. I have to refoam at some point already,as there seems to be a little water in there leaking out from a scupper install leak from prev job. But i dont wana take a bunch more water in the meantime.

$40 ??? this looks like a terrible deal. what can those do that these cant?

i ordered the mcmaster car nuts. they were well built but they didnt have a bottom on them (the bolt screws right through the nut and bottoms out on your tray). i would rather use some acorn nuts welded to washers so i can tighten the bolt down tight without worrying about breaking the bond between the insert and the tray.

you could just make sure you have a short enough bolt so bottoming out is not a worry

I recently installed the Strap inserts. I took the sticky stuff off the back.. sanded tray and then sanded the insert.

I mixed up some west systems epoxy with some 404 (peanut butter).

Then while the 404 was still wet, i layed some 9.0 0z. s-glass over them.

came out good. I will do a strength test later. :fing02:

those are part of the boat now...if they break, it will be the insert itself that comes apart

Just incase they do bust.. i got 4... :fing02:

and then i got Oxnards kit as a backup too !

sweet! keep us updated on how this works. I just sold a set of straps with the stainless acorn nut inserts, but may get another strap for the front of my ski. Being as how there is no caker front hold for a 550, because we all know how much demand there is lol.

footstrap mouinting

FYI, this i what I use. They are windsurfing inserts that I router a slot out of the tray and set them in microballoons and cabosil then a layer of 17oz nitex over the top. If a windsurfer can do loops with footstraps I think its good enough for us. Ive used these on every boat for the last 2 years and never had one come out. The other thing is you can make it somewhat adjustable.
you can get these from fiberglass supply or TC Freeride. I sell them for $2 plus shipping. I will post pics later
