Forget the upgrade, how bout this?

Firstly, thanks to all for the advice per all my questions about the carbon hull, ice cream engine upgrade for the 440, etc. I learned quite a bit so thanks.

I had trouble sleeping last night so I thought a lot about it and actually think...so I dont waste money on upgrades and possibly regret it later, I am considering simply buying a new ski altogether so when I get a little better I can easily pull off a backflip.

I am about to pull the trigger on withdrawing from my retirement fund to pay the new ski. Here is what I am very likely gonna buy and its relatively local which is great!

I don't know much about lots of the upgrades the guy lists but I assume they are pretty cool and would help me do tricks easier.

And possibly the best part is that I can have it for this weekend when i go to San Diego to ride with Aquaholic's crew.

I am sure you will all have opinions but this seems like a good move to me and I could do more engine upgrades later and a carbon hull which I can fund over time or with taking more out of my retirement fund.

I dont know how old you are...Im 27, and still living the young, fast, and single life....but even I think that is a terrible idea. That is also probably why I dont have an aftermarket ski with a billet BB motor..

Edit: However, I understand the passion of this sport and you do only live once...so let it rip bro!

I maxed out my credit cards on Pro-tec and Riva top dollar stuff in the early/mid 90's for 10's of thousands of dollars.. bad move, but boy it sure was fun. My saying was "get the fun done while your young!"

But yeah, you probably better listen to these guys... lol

Just the thought of doing this myself makes me cringe soooooo hard. (I finally appreciate my mother's views of finances that she drilled into my head.)

Horrible idea. Not a fan of taking out a loan for a "toy" either? Half the fun is building your ski, anybody can go out and buy a ski. Start small and upgrade over time. This way you learn as you go.

thanks, i really appreciate the advice.

I don't fully understand the math behind the actual penalties but of course do know there are some involved and on paper I assumed it makes no sense.

So what you are saying is that it would actually be a $19,600 jet ski...all things considered, that is probably worth it to me. You only live once and when I pulled money from my retirement fund to buy a new motorcycle, road, and mountain bike, I ended up happier so while I appreciate that this is not logical, I am probably dumb enough to do it for this purchase too.

Well, if its not the first time you've done it, you are already fine with doing it again.

At this point...live fast, take chances, and plan on dieing before retirement. Then you would have nothing to worry about.

He must be thinking x-scream... If he doesn't even know how to pronounce the type of engine he thinks he needs, he has absolutely no business buying anything more than the 440 he currently owns.

In my opinion, stick with the 440, hope something breaks (which probably won't take long with a 440), so you're able to learn a little something and don't even think about an aftermarket ski until you're at least able to stand up without falling on the 440. For god sakes, man.

The ONLY benefit I see to doing it from your 401k is that the interest you're paying GOES BACK TO YOU. You aren't paying interest to a financial institution. I still wouldn't do it to fund a hobby, but we're different people. At least if you're doing it this way, you'll see the benefits.

You just wanted a dairy product engine how in the world did you come across a rickter lmao!

Get a superjet. You'll be set on a superjet as far as tricks go that you'll be able to pull of of that rickter on flatwater and the surf. Now if you become more experienced then go the route of a different hull but do some research about the hull rather than find anything and decide this is the one. We love that your in the sport but cool your jets (no puns intended) before your 100k in debt from skis and can't even bunny hop.

440-> superjet-> aftermarket ski :)

Can we get some background on you, Mr. Mikesee? I am very intrigued as to what kind of person comes out of the gate so hot headed in a community that's new to him and that he has no knowledge of. The ice cream engine was funny the first 20 times, but you've been corrected and acknowledged the correction, so are you just doing it to be funny now? And now that you have that avatar, I can't help but think that's what you really look like and are, and that thought scares me...

hell of an investment. but a good riding hull. so har choice. there are better deals than that on the x if you drive a little. i would cap myself at 10k and see what i can get. my personal cap for my first stunt setup was 5000 and i got it done. so much better than a stock ski
