It figures that I have my Aquabot victory ride Friday night and strip my ski to sell the hull Saturday morning and you water test yours the same day! Glad you're happy with it though!

I removed the stubby pump cone and installed the OEM one this morning.
Also installed the flame arrestor and ran into a problem. The interior hood drain hoses are in direct conflict with the flame arrestor. Had to cut one shorter and re-direct it. It will work, but the two hoses have to go different directions, so they're not neatly zip-tied together as I had them. Boo-Hoo.
I never even though of that while doing the hood.

I'd like to take it for a rip today, but we're having some kinda freak cold snap today and tonight.

I ran into the same issue when I made a liner for my rn hood, I ended up I believe having one tube directly behind motor and the other in front

I only had to cut one of them shorter. I thought about cutting it off completely, but it's the one over the carbs...and that seemed to defeat the whole purpose of the tube.
It will now dump directly on the battery. Not sure how I feel about that, but.....we'll see.
The other fits neatly between the stator cover and fuel tank.

It was a used hood at a good price. I can't complain about my own lack of foresight on this particular issue.

But: I'm pretty happy to be "down to small stuff". lol.

Pull that vent tube out and glass the hood closed in that spot. Relocate the tube in front of the flywheel cover next to the other tube. Then you can zip tie them together again and be happily content knowing you are sano again

lol!!
If I were completely anal...or a victim of OCD....I might do that. (not really jabbing anyone)...
I'm riding it.
The little poop can get fixed along the way.

Took it for a burn after work today, and I must say that.....I think that, with a lot of help, I may have created the perfect surf ski! (less some nose rocker)
I'm not thru the break in yet. I intend to fine-tune after. But it hits great and handles great. Almost too good. Can't break it loose like before.

I yanked out the stubby cone and went back to the stocker, as my builder suggested, and it actually made a noticeable difference for the better.

Hoping to ride again Saturday at the spot.
I was being cautious today, riding alone, so I stayed inside the bridge. I REALLY wanted to hit the waves. New motor...new everything....I held back.

Rode the flat water today again. No waves and no riders.
Only 2 other riders showed up at the spot, late in the day. Seem like good people. 2 brothers with "new-to-them" Kawi 650's. MX guys converting to water.
Maybe get some waves next week. Tomorrow's booked.

Wow. Ski is running great overall. Finally gonna dial in the carbs this weekend. Fine tuning. Feels a bit rich in the low end.

Hours are a funny thing. I installed an hour meter/tach during the rebuild. I feel like I've ridden quite a bit, but it's only up to 15 hrs. I guess turning screws and drinking beer at the launch spot don't count. lol.

Waves seem to have left us. Typical summer on lake Atlantic. Waiting on the storms, or Sanoman to bring waves.
Good time for tweeking.

15 hours already is actually doing pretty good.

I was always amazed at how long it takes for the hours to add up. I put 59 hours on my Seadoo the first season I bought it and it took me something like 7 more years to get it to 120. Once I bought standups, the Seadoo didn't get ridden near as much.

Funny thing about storing your ski outside:
While riding last weekend we shut 'em down for a rest out beyond the break. In the water, looking up at my handlepole, I noticed some trash/debris above my steering under the chin pad.
Started pulling stuff out. Turned out to be an entire birds nest. Nobody home and no eggs, but a nest none the less.
I took some grief from the other riders for that one.

Carbs finally dialed in. (a while ago). It's a wonderful thing. The ski is giving me all that I can ask of it.
The carbs were an issue because, if you go WAY back in this thread, you'll find that they are a matched pair of Mikuni 38s, but off of an old wave raider.
There are differences when compared to stock SJ 38's.
#1: Threads on the needles. The SJ carbs have coarse threaded lows and fine threaded highs. The wave raider carbs that I have are ALL coarse threads. This makes tuning completely different from other similar set-ups. The number of "turns" differs from the norm.
#2: The taper on the needles is much more severe. This REALLY makes a big difference, specifically with the lows. Normal SJ's are around 1 turn out to start out. I ended up at half of that, and could have gone further, but better safe than sorry.
Funny. I can't believe that I didn't foul plugs with the incredibly rich settings that I was running.
Anyway, I learned a lot and the PIG runs great.
Thanks to all involved!

Weather has not been great for 2 weeks or so. Really good waves 2 Sunday's ago.... Anyway, I figured I'd fire it up in the driveway as I do when it hasn't been ridden for a week or more. No go. Starter or bendix sounds awful. Pulled the plugs to take some load off. Spun over good for a few seconds, then the sound of a rooster in the morning... and stop. Repeated...same.
So, the motor will come out as soon as I get a chance. Yes, I know it can be done in the hull. I prefer to get it on the bench and SEE as I inspect.
I know that many of you will cringe when I tell you that I will replace the starter with the DB Electrical $42.00 version and the $17.00 bendix if needed.
However, that's what has been in there for the last 7 years. So, I can go thru 5 of them or so, for the price of a single OEM starter. Maybe I've been lucky, but until they do me wrong I'll go with DB.

Last ride it was making the "bird-chirping" starter noise. Now it's the "rooster in the morning". I guess I got the goodie out of it.
Open to your thoughts.
