SXR Freeride build....-5 Hull With All Kinds of Goodness (top and bottom deck split)

So after riding my ski today are you selling your 800 to put a yamaha motor in there?

Honestly no, don't get me wrong it runs good but i don't think it would have anything for my motor if it were in my hull (aka a fat turd) I have yet to ride a stock cylinder yamaha motor that would touch my mildy modified kawi...the only way i would ever put a yamaterd in there is if manned up and spent a lot of money on a dasa or x scream motor...and then it is not even really a yamaha. MX is where I spend most of my funds...skis are just a hobby, I do not compete,...nor do I want to.

haha buy a superjet.....

J/K i'm just posting to subscribe to this build. Scorn has been lonely being the only kawi promoter around here. Nice KTM by the way.

It is tough being a kawi guy...no one even gives them a chance anymore

Haha thanks, I love the 350....I don't think I will ever ride a different bike.

Not unless I win the lottery and go over 900cc's

I've owned plenty of yamajunk over the years. I still got a blaster, that is pain in the ass.
The whole midshaft thing just sucks:twak: and don't get me started on electrical:moon:

If you are going to go aftermarket, the SS865 package is a real nice motor. Its treated me well for the last season. Plus I'm still on the smallest bore.

Why would you say that?
That is the right way to mount a set of Novi's

thank you, and it was how I had my 44's mounted as well

I like how you think haha, just say no to yamaha

not enough money for any type of aftermarket...I have a few other projects going

why would you put a yamaha based motor in there? Put a dasa pv topend on them cases and run with the 950cc boys on a stock stroke!

hmm tell me more about this haha...

On another note I have slowly been doing hull work...all my composite needs were ordered from blowsion today so i can finally start making this thing go back together...My hood has not shown up yet and I am getting mildy concerned. I will throw up some pics when there is some visible progress.....and thanks for all the suggestions guys, it no doubt gets me thinking.

Thanks for the info about splitting the decks. It nice to see another person modding out a kawi, I have a modified 750 sx with 3inch cut of the back- x2 trim cutsom, pole and alot other other motor mods and I think its a fun ski compared to all the superjets out there

I'm pretty happy with my 5mil 809cc motor...we're only trying to help ya save money and have a better motor!

I am not sure how I would be saving money or getting a better motor? Your 5mm stroker is roughly the same as my ski at 1mm bored stock stroke...796 vs 809. I can buy a 4mil stroker crank for mine and be well over 809.

Plus if I went yamaha I would have to buy all new electrics, new motor that would have to be a good stroker motor to compare to what mine is now. Do motor mount work, make driveshaft couplers....and do all kinds of little stuff. I just don't see where losing power and spending a bunch of money would help.

I rode a 6mill lamey non pv superjet a few years ago, the ski was probably 60lbs lighter than mine and motor wise my ski would tow it around all day. Granted it would jump better because of the weight, but it still had nowhere near the power.

Until I ride a yami based motor that actually wows me, I am sticking with my kawi. I have ridden alot of modded superjets and they hit ok on bottom then just get really flat in the mid

..I think half of the people just hopped on that superjet bandwagon and never gave the kawi motor a shot, with a slight port job and selected bolt I bet my tired old kawi will hang with the best of the 850cc and below yami motors. It is hard to get a fair test because the superterds are so light haha. You can't compare a 250lb ski to a 330 pound ski....

I forgot!
what you need to do is put on a DASA PV BB topend and get the yamaha 144 pump. now that is the proper way to do it. doing anything else would be careless.

haha 250?

My RN is 350 RTR with gas. Reinforced all over for surf though. It holds up to 15ft high backflip pancakes all day and big over rotated rolls to pancakes.

I forgot!
my RN is 265 RTR with a mouthful of gas in it. so yeah, it truely is RTR just not for a long ride. It will not take 15' pancakes all day but it gets a bunch of flatlandings on wave days.

I guess I had a built sxr motor in my lightweight hull sxr hull before i had my 5mil in the same hull....

The SXR motor was 805cc (I think?) with..

advent ignition
jetnetics lightweight flywheel
ADA head for pump gas
Wetpipe
TDR waterbox
Vforce reeds
Reed spacers
Freestyle porting by zforce racing

yamaha motor was a 828 stroker with

MSD ignition
ADA head for pump gas (but running 120 and 150psi needing a rebuild)
Bpipe
TDR waterbox
kawi reeds with boysen pedals
reed spacers
xscream porting
dual 44's

Night and day difference between the motors and plus I get over a half hour longer in gas which saves ALOT of money every season. The motors were a wash once I sold my kawi stuff...the only thing I really spent money on was the adaptor plates and couplers that cost me about $250 which I say the gas life paid for hands down.

Kawi motors are just not made for freestyle, the port timing isn't made for it. Your doing what you want which is what you should do, I'm just letting you know what worked best for me in my kawi hull. SXR handling with the yamaha power...it was the best of both worlds.

Oh and...GET THE DAMN HULL DONE BEFORE WINTER!!! Brap.

Very cool build dude. I've never ridden anything but a stock lengh sxr please let me know how it rides.

I have had it -5 for about two years...I wouldnt have it any other way honestly...I can still chase a buoy and have plenty of fun launching waves.

what you need to do is put on a DASA PV BB topend and get the yamaha 144 pump. now that is the proper way to do it. doing anything else would be careless.

That is what i would like to do....that and a superfreak haha

Damn that is as fat as a stock sx-r haha

I wish my ski would be that light...I don't even know where mine is going to end up....I hope like 315 or so rtr with a splash of fuel.

Hmmm thats cheaper than i thought,

I really want to ride your ski, the Matrix hull looks so awesome. I rode a few of my friends skis this week as i am cleared to ride from my broken collarbone, I have been sanding and prepping like crazy...just waiting on my stuff from blowsion.

According to Kawi, stock SXR is 396.9lbs with full tank of gas, extinguisher and tool kit.

That's a heavy pig.

I'll be watching this cause I'm curious where it will end up. I want to strip and re-build mine someday, not to the extent you are, but I'd like to de-glue it and re-seal everything with 5200.
