freeride ski engines, help pick one out

Get a hull first with a B pipe and high comp head. Look into the Chan (new owners so you wont get screwed) , Brawler or Aquabot. Not in that order. Those seem to be on the lower scale of price but not on the lower scale of quality or fun factor.

If your not riding surf a lot I wouldn't recommend a rickter glass. I bought a rickter Evo thinking I would ride surf more and I'm about 60% flat water (sometimes lake, sometimes bay) and 40% surf. THe rickter had a 701 bpipe msd enhancer and head. It was a blast in surf, but on flat water I didn't think it was any better then a superjet.

haha you guys make me smile! i really appreciate the responses, well lets get started.

#1 where i ride,

I live in poulsbo Washington on liberty bay, Here it's sadly salt water in about a half mile each direction (picture a lake with no real surf, just tides and salt water, I do get a few 30-50 foot Yachts that roll through here with enough wake to maybe pull a b-roll, but again its just occasional. I live about 3 hrs away from any surf and honestly i would be supprised if i EVER made it out to the surf.

#2 what I want to do

Again I am about 180 lbs but a tall ass 6'4" guy, Skinny as poop lol. the kind of riding I do now is just dick'n around on the new superjet trying to find new interesting tricks/subs/stabs/maneuvers/even drifting it around a bit kind of shenanigans, but in my head I'm practicing everyday the proper set up wakes and such, just dreaming of being on a short hull that can flip my tall @$$ upside down :D

#3 What I think it would take (if I am wrong on what it takes please fill me in!)

I have always had a thing for going B@lls out on my toys lol, although no i'm not loaded and honestly cant just throw money away, I spent 6 years riding sport bikes and but it also took me 6 years to save up and buy my dream bike (ducati hyper) that bike always made me smile from ear to ear as it had more torque than I know what to do with and i'd just wheelie it all day every day
anyways back on topic, I moved from riding motorcycles to jet skiing mostly for the freedom I feel on the water.
So I just need help figuring out how not to waste my money, but avoid having regret if I got somthing that just couldn't *Cough superjet Cough* (naw it's tons of fun still haha)
if you guys say my new ski's 701 will throw a backie (obviously with skill and a set up wake) than well poop lets get this party started with a hull.

You're not going to flatwater backflip a stock Superjet hull, but you should get a pipe.

Yeah your going about this all bass-ackwards. If your already tired of your super jet just gut it and sell the hull. Swap all into light weight fw hull ( which won't be cheap ) you'll still need a lot of parts. Worry about a big motor after that's all done. Besides like most said above your gonna want/need far more then just the $5,000-8,000 motor you desire too. I'd stick with what you got if your not that serious. Just saying if I was you I'd be driving to the ocean 3 hrs away and a 701 in a Rickter, Krash, freak, aquabot hull would leave you saying Fuch flatwater.

We still didn't see a budget did we?
If you are looking for the fancy flat water tricks, on a beginner's skill level you're talking at least $15k to get a single Flip and $20+k if you're looking for a ski capable of combo's.

I agree with the other's stating that a hull is the better investment. A good hull, your 701 with the usual bolt-ons and a big boat wave = a lot of fun.
I tried to chase the flat water dream for a while, building, modding, selling & trying to do things the cheap way. Long story short, I never flat water flipped. I'm currently riding a Vision hull with a sub-800 cc motor with total loss, dry pipe and a stock pump. It's the most fun I've had on a ski so far, but it's not going to flatwater flip that's for sure.

JRock, What setup is in your fs2? Do you like the hull, How do you think it would do with a mild 701 setup? I see you soaring out some rolls off some good wakes. Do you think you could get it around off smaller boats or even your own setup wake?

I love the ski. It's just a limited 701 61x setup. My skill isn't so great I only been riding 3 seasons but if I had the skill no doubt can roll my own wake. Seen others do it with same hull/combo. But I ride a lot of surf and we chase real big boats at 30-40mph.

I actually want to pick up a leftover evo or new Edge from Tc this fall. But all in all I would like to stick with the brand I love the fit/finish, adjustability and ride of Rickters.

Good stuff, Thanks man.
Been wanting a fs2 to swap into.. But alot of people say its "heavy and not far from a superjet" But it seems like i could still throw down some flat water and still chase boats with it.

Compared to my 2013 Sj I still have it's wayyyy more nimble. But they are right it's not a flatwater flipper ski. There is such a massive difference in flatwater hulls vs surf. Which is confusing to learn at first but think of your Am hull selection as a shoe, needs to be your size, for what you intend to ride. Like you don't buy basketball shoes to go bowling or golfing in. So don't buy a surf boat to ride flatwater. Or flatwater to ride surf.

Learn to master the hull you got. Install some footholds if you dont have them. Learn basic riding skills, then start progressing. You do not just go and order a 1105. You have to build the package. This package is going to cost you $10,000.00. Stick with what you got, add a pipe, head and enhancer. Start doing nose stabs and rolls. If you cant a cruiser you could start trying some flips if the wave is right...... Then get your cylinders ported. master that to the point you are out of power............. Its a progression, not dive headfirst into something that you will not be able to ride.

Thats like telling someone who wants to play guitar but has a stand up bass to mod the stand up bass and stick with that for a few years. Screw that , go buy a freeride/freestyle hull and enjoy the learning prosses.
