If he wants to produce and sell his own hulls or build one for his own gratification, go for it. Just don't think it will be cheaper or faster.

it still costs a good amount of cash, even if you have molds the material to make one is more than you think, getting it right and aligning the pump firewall mid shaft and engine must be done right. if not you just wasted all your time and money.

Cutting up a hull and widening it can add alot of weight, also decreasing the structural integrity of the hull itself. If you make a plug to make a mold of the final prodect would be much lighter because you can control the layup schedule and build the hull as a whole not pieced together. There is alot more time and money into this process and if you are not selling them to cover you costs, it makes no sense

I layed up a superjet based hull out of a set of molds I have and the material alone including gel coat, resin, cloth, carbon, harware, plumbing, and adhesives was around $1600 just to have a hull. (no paint, turf, hood seal, pump shoe) I have not even ridden it yet im still working on it, and have around 100 hours into it. there is alot of respect owed to hull builders its not an easy task and doing it first hand really gives you an understanding of just how much time goes into each one

wow, this thread got really turned around. He said he didn't want to pay 7k for a hull and he didn't want to wait for one to be built for him. people gave him solid advice. Did he ever say he wanted to produce hulls for profit?

i cannot justify spending 7k plus then do paint and whatever else when this is what i do for a living

where its write that he dont wanna spent 7k on a hull???? I guess its will be more expensive than 7k to make a mold and produce one hull.

not to sound like a d*ick the plug and mold is simply alot of time the molding process is the easiest but getting to that point is forever, yea its cash but i have enough scrap material at work for the mold and for a ski for myself just in cut offs of different carbon and 1208,1708,2208 all with and w/0 kevlar to make it worth my while when we start a project it all has to be on the same roll to meet the specs for stuff we were working on so if we finish a part and theres 20 ft left its thrown into a container. i have alot of contacts with different people so i can pretty much ask for sample stuff and make a jetski for myself to try without reaching into my pocket much hence the fact why im doing this im aware of the time it takes i already started hacking one up im not building one from scratch i am almost done the complete design of the first sxr/1100 ski i am building several of my friends have shown interest which is why i started this one first once completed i will hack that up to make a freeride hull and use it as a running plug so the weight will not be compromised it will be within 10-15lbs of the finished part and i DO PLAN TO SELL

So it's okay to splash superjets, sxrs, octanes and FX-1s but nothing else?

I don't understand the difference.

its a gray area but id splash an sxr drawn by a computer and cnc'd out of foam before i had the heart and balls to splash a freak, rickter or trinity i know the months ive been spending on this its alot of time and as easy as it is to mold and copy it you hope nobody will i think thats kind of a respect thing with any design product
