If he wants to produce and sell his own hulls or build one for his own gratification, go for it. Just don't think it will be cheaper or faster.
it still costs a good amount of cash, even if you have molds the material to make one is more than you think, getting it right and aligning the pump firewall mid shaft and engine must be done right. if not you just wasted all your time and money.
Cutting up a hull and widening it can add alot of weight, also decreasing the structural integrity of the hull itself. If you make a plug to make a mold of the final prodect would be much lighter because you can control the layup schedule and build the hull as a whole not pieced together. There is alot more time and money into this process and if you are not selling them to cover you costs, it makes no sense
I layed up a superjet based hull out of a set of molds I have and the material alone including gel coat, resin, cloth, carbon, harware, plumbing, and adhesives was around $1600 just to have a hull. (no paint, turf, hood seal, pump shoe) I have not even ridden it yet im still working on it, and have around 100 hours into it. there is alot of respect owed to hull builders its not an easy task and doing it first hand really gives you an understanding of just how much time goes into each one
