im not going to lie, i have the newer x-metal box with front and rear exhaust and it is pretty loud. it's not something you want to run if your going to be riding close to a lot of people for a while.

how about a stock waterbox with the side and rear exhaust? Shouldn't be nearly as loud as running the X-Metal box with side and rear right?

on the sxr I saved almost 7lbs by removing the rear exhaust. I've shed nearing 35lbs off this pig not incldung the light weight battery going in today, thats another 7lbs off. It has changed this boat big time!!!

I would guess the weight savings is similar w/ a sj.. my ski feels really light in the back end w/o the exhaust back there...

FOr the guys who think it's too loud, just run a bypass into the end of your exhaust... It really quites the ski down...

I noticed a nice improvement by removing the rear tube, I got rid of the thick black hose, exhaust tube and read exhaust flange(heavy on the SXR). I then used the pipe I removed to make the side exhaust so it would be 2 1/2" diameter and used a piece of the black hose to reconnect. I went with the TDR powerspray, not to loud, I was surprised...

Not Hi-jacking the thread but if you install a front exhaust and you leave the boat tied up in the water does it ingest water throught the front exhaust. I'm thinking of going dual's but was worried about the water issue

my friends waterbox fills up with water but he cut his stock waterbox apart and put the front exhaust outlet from the waterbox on the same side as where the pipe enters the water box... unfortunately it's at about water level so the water just flows right in. The x-metal set up uses a longer hose with a T that connects where the stock water box outlet is... therefore keeping the entire hose above the water line and should not flood the waterbox...

hope that made sense...

Hi Guys, on a SXR 800 will the second outlet sit on the same side of the OEM exhaust, in other words Exchaust -> Waterbox -> second Exhaust outlet -> Factory exhaust at the back. Or does the 2nd one sit in front of the waterbox

I put the new X box in my ski with Geek this past weekend... Its quite loud. I like it but not sure if I can keep it in there. deeper sound than the old style for sure. I am running a flow valve so I took the spring and ball out and I am going to hopefully try it tonight... Hoping it will be a little toned down. We had to install mine at a slight angle to keep the T close to the side so the exhaust tube cleared the tank... Man it does save a ton of weight.....

Gonna have to wear earplugs I guess :p

You could always block-off the side and run rear only, should make it a lil less loud?

For sure! A mod motor with stock Waterbox and front only exhaust will still be loud! With the exhaust out the back you only here it when its out of the water.... for a surf boat X-metal exhaust rear only is a good idea.

i just rode yesterday, for the first time, with the front side exhaust. in order to make it fit properly, with the stock waterbox, i had to remove the front nose foam. my ski has always listed to the right in the water, but now it seems to list a little more. that said, when sitting in the water, the water can flow into the outlet and because the ski lists so far to the right the water can actual flow into the waterbox.

anyone else have this problem?

On the SXR the second exhaust is on the same side as the rear. I had the kit from blowsion and recently took it out and made my own front only exhaust, It's the way to go in my opinion. I chopped up the blowsion kit and put it on my bros SJ and the right side.

i just ordered up the XMW waterbox, i like that it's smaller than stock, so with the side exhaust i should be able to put the nose foam back in.

Has anyone ever tried to use a one way valve or scupper of some sort on front exhaust to help keep water out?:shrug:

There is no need... the outlet's from the waterbox are way above the waterline.... the exit comes up at the same height as the stock box (that is how the box maintains the stock rear exit)

Look at the pic at XMW.

Yeah, i saw that... i have the the XMW front exhaust kit... running with my stock box... but my ski lists pretty far to the right... i was just worried the water would still make it in. when i had my nose foam in place it seemed to sit higher out of the water... so i am going to put that back in...

i like the front exhaust though... and i can't wait to put the xmw waterbox in too...
