For everyone who doesnt feel like doing the conversion to LBS:
XFS glass: 110-112
XFR glass: 121-123
XFS carbon: 94-97
I did NOT know they were that heavy. I knew they were a bit heavier then other short aftermarket hulls but DAMN!!! Pretty much a deal breaker for me. My current surf fx with a ton of reinforcement and tubbies weighs 87lbs bare, 98 with a hood, underpad, and turf. I just cant see spending that much money to go up 25 lbs. I mean my former pink surf reinforced square only weighed 120.....
Put it this way, I've had my XFS for a year and a half now- Its a hybrid surf/flatwater ski for me, up untill a couple months ago its been running a xscream 865 off its nut- crazy power for surf- could flip the thing off 1 foot breaks and also flatwater flip it- All I do is extend the RRP pole 60mm for surf (which takes 5 mins) and slap on the +80mm ride plate and she's an awesome surf rider. But I've gotten used to riding full flatwater setup in the surf now (short plate, short pole) so I just keep it that way. Learnt to only give half throttle braps for flips/rolls/re-entries that way and full noise for flatwater.
Just recently put in the xscream1000 in it.. Yes i ride it in the surf and yes it is rediculous. (I've made up an ignition switch for my TL: A-Curve 25deg peak @ 6000rpm limit and B-Curve for flat 29deg @ 9500rpm.
As for the weight- Its well worth it. A week before a made the 1000cc transplant, I was flipping it off 8-foot face bay (wind) waves and accidently rode too close to the pier near the reef- Nosed in from a good 15+ foot high flip into the meter deep swell right into a big ass rock. I was waiting for it to go straight under untill I spun it round, only to find the gel-coat/paint and maybe a 3-4mm deep chunk of epoxy missing out of the nose. No stress cracks present anywhere else.
This is by far the best ski I've owned and wouldnt change it for anything else.
I was thinking about putting in a front footwell box myself, it would be very easy to do. I didnt in the end because I put the PowerFactor waterbox in to replace the battery with a lithium mounted on the firewall in that position. I may think about doing it again one day.
