Wondering what people's fuel consumption is on their ski. Have a great motor and want to compare other people's consumptions, debating upgrading motors if fuel consumption isn't terribly different. Things i was trying to figure out in ratios of gallons per hour for skis with:
Stock 701
701 w/bpipe
850 bpipe or pfp
900 bpipe or pfp
1000 bpipe or pfp
1200 pfp

Please list setups as far as compression/pump or race gas/ and what size motor

I love the idea of this thread! Been thinking about ride time myself now that I am down to a 5 gallon tank. Swam the ski back on the last 50 yds on my last surf ride haha

My challenge to those responding is : How are you estimating ride time? Stop watch? Hour meter? Have you actually spent time keeping track of ride time?

Most importantly, what size gas tank are you running?

I would love to find out if anyone out there has done a true "study" of this, rather than seat of the pants estimates on ride time for any particular setup...

Two riders can get vastly different ride times on the same boat. It's largely riding style and conditions in my opinion. That day Zimmy swam back 50 yards, I ran out of fuel two minutes before he did- he's on a 760 with 49 Full Specs and I'm on a 950 with 48 Novis... He's on a new Viper and I'm on a Foot Rocket...

I used about 7.5 ga of fuel at the coquina beach free ride and put about 3 hours on my tach.

I used 20-25 gallons last daytona and put about 10 hours on my tach.

I would burn about 2ga of fuel in 10-20 minutes of racing wot as often as possible, based on approx ride time of those laps, not the tach.

Limited superjet, stock hull and tank.

Carbon hulls use less fuel imo. XS 900R bpipe with 46's, get 1.5 hrs on the 5 gallons with SF carbon hull. As said above, riding style makes a difference for sure. With a 61x single 44 motor it was like 3 hrs ride time with bpipe.

Thanks for good responses so far guys. Reason for this thread is I have a 781 on dual 38s and a pfp in my glass bob gen 2 and am able to get about 2 gallons per hr of riding and just thought if bigger motors did the same that I would upgrade. But sounds like I'm pretty fuel efficient (not compared to a stock motor). Yesterday I got to the lake roughly 415 and rode till 745 with only taking a few breaks so probably a solid 3 hrs. After hearing about the 701 I'm very happy that I get about the same economy, and the 900 is just a tad worse (nice because that's the motor I'm looking into)

Totally, I get that's each is their own when riding. Just trying to get an average when comparing motors. Seeing what is power difference but similar fuel. So how long would you say you guys rode and how many gallon s you go through

Hardline tachs work very well and the hour meter only ticks when the ski is running. $30. Has resetable max RPM, hour meter, RPM update 1-2 times per second. Good for tuning and keeping track of running times.

Limited superjet with 701
Dual 38 carbs@ 3/4-5/8 throttle (endurance race) burnt about 5.2 gallons in approx 45 min.
Dual 44 carbs@ varying throttle (surf riding) burnt 5.4 gallons in approx 2 hours.
Dual Novi 46s = TBD

My tank holds 5.4 gallons if you fill it through the factory filler neck. I bet you could fit like 5.6 if you had internal fill. I have each gallon marked on my tank so I can keep track of my fuel level during testing. I guess if I really wanted to I could get a pretty accurate gallon per hour calculation going. This winter I'll be testing dual 38s vs single 44 for fuel consumption, I'm real curious to see what does better.

I don't know what my consumption per hour is, but I have a JM781 with dual 38's also, (in a Carbon Kevlar Chan) and I'm amazed with how little fuel it uses compared to others I ride with.

For two seasons I would come back in from chasing boats, concerned that i'm almost out of fuel only to find that I have a half tank remaining.
