Surfriding FX1 for my son

Laid up the bottom nose piece and put another coat of Aluzine on the top. Of course I’m a few pumps short of west systems to finish the side of the tray and glue the nose pieces on. Have some random epoxy circa 2006 but I’m afraid to use it. Going to finish the body work tomorrow and get it ready to rattle can. Then I gotta build the engine 1A31CD21-5E28-4BDE-8B4E-12A7DD59A74B.jpeg080B0E41-7E80-4468-A9DB-CD80FB376C94.jpeg

Debating what to use to install pump shoe. Usually use that bostik 920fs that blowsion used to sell for tubbie installation. Similar to 5200 but not as permanent. Want to Be able to remove it fairly easily if I do the pump swap..silicone? Any other suggestions?

Hood liner installed with 5200. Not the most sanitary install but out of the plexus/silicone/5200 that was holding in the old one the 5200 seemed to adhere the best. Doesn’t fit very well in the front and judging by how much plexus was in the corners the original one didn’t either

I used Black RTV silicone for mine and taped everything off on the pump shoe AND the hull first. Then used a copious amount of silicone on the pump shoe and hull area, stuck it down and a smoothed out the silicone, then removed the tape carefully while the silicone was still wet. It came out really clean and I’m sure it’s sealed tight!

Right or wrong black RTV is also what Seadoo used on all their pump shoes.
Will definitely be easier to remove than marine grade flange sealant..especially with an aluminum shoe.
Pretty frustrated after 6hrs of sanding today..could spend another month on it and still not Be happy. Can’t reach with a tool so all by hand.. Most of it is on the bottom under the rails where it’s hard to see but I know it’s there. Going to call it good and spray it and keep my eye out for an unmolested one if he likes it...otherwise we will just run it for a few years and switch to a square when he’s bigger..

@wydopen Ok, here goes, I am going to ask a couple of stupid questions.

First, thanks for putting that video in your signature.

Second, is that a modified Square Nose SJ that you are riding in the surf?

Third, for that type of wave riding/slashing, what is your preferred hull/ski?

That was my old ski..just a 96 round nose superjet with tubbies/quick steer and a ported motor. I just built my new ski almost identical..for me personally I can’t ride aftermarket hulls like I can a pre 08 superjet..I feel like the extra width/wide rails keep them from lying over when you are turning on the wave. That’s why I’m having reservations about the Wide rails on the fx. Think it will Be good for my son while learning but with him being so lite I hope he can put it on a rail still.. I ride heavy on my back foot so I don’t have a problem with pearling so being short/more rocker isn’t a benefit for me..my riding style is pretty unique though and I ride faster than most people. That video was all slow mo...I did try a hurricane apex hull that felt pretty good but it’s basically a slightly shorter superjet with the pole bracket moved forward. I definitely felt like I had to slow down with it and I couldn’t lay as much power into the turns with it being more slippery feeling but could do tighter more pivoty turns. Definitely my favorite aftermarket hull.CC203F35-3EA9-48F0-AED0-605DCB761BD2.jpeg

So, you like the Square Nose bottom and the Round Nose top better than just a full on 1995 Square Nose?

Or is it because of the dual carb 701 post 1995?

96 was the first year of the round nose and first year of dual carbs..The bottom was the same as the square nose but they ride different with the pole bracket location and you can’t get good aftermarket hoods for squares anymore. Round noses were the same from 96-07 and then they changed the bottom and made it have too much grip for waveriding IMO. I started with a square though and they ride good also. I ran an LPW motor with a single carb before in a round nose and it ran really good. Can get duals or singles to run well. I still think for all around riding a superjet is hard to beat..can ride waves, carve bouys and even do some freestyle. I used to be able to flat water roll my square with just a pipe and milled head..

INDO board for the win :p

One of my favorite things ever. We have had one since I was like 10 and I still use it... There is a clip in Fish's Adventure of Chris Fischetti on an indo board, watching jet ski races on his TV and holding handlebars while "pretending" to be in the race haha

Haha yea they are pretty cool..I’ve had that one a long time. I hadn’t used it in awhile but I started using it for workouts..makes squats and overhead presses more interesting..that is if I could get this fx done..haven’t touched a weight in over a month..any free time is spent on that thing

Top nose piece glued on..
Assembled the bottom end with an sbt crank. Should have taken some before pics of the cases. Were a real mess. Had water sitting in them for awhile by the looks of them.. Took forever to clean them up. Of course like an idiot after 1211’ing and torquing to spec I was rushing to get inside to cook the kids dinner and I grab a plastic bag to put over it for the night..somehow it was filled with sand that dumped all over the new crank..not fun getting it all out..

You’re a good man to make sure the kids were fed and still get some work done to the ski.
