Surfriding FX1 for my son

Engine assembled with some old junk I had laying around. Should have probably bored it but think it can get by on a hone. Taking a gamble on the stator. Have 3 but I know ones bad..can’t remember which is which..used the one that came with it..had water in flywheel cover but it cleaned up ok. That engine looks like it met its demise from sinking so I’m assuming it had spark when it went down. Just need to shorten the battery cables and jet the carbs..used a 760 head gasket and advanced the timing a little

If you rig a small Pre-Mix Fuel Container to the Carbs and hook-up a Battery, you can test run the Engine outside of the Ski.

Use a spare OEM Start/Stop Switch. Just keep the PTO clear. Pipe is connected to a spare Water Box...
Thats what I was thinking...at least compression test it and check for spark...

Last bit of glasswork done..glued bottom nose piece on and filled some pinholes. Kids are going to be gone today going to finish sand it And try to spray. Unfortunately I had to touch up the 5200 on hood liner so I have to leave the clamps on till Thursday so I will have to paint that later.

Rattlecan in process. Aside from the pinholes I knew were going to Be there and a couple insects/dog hairs that got into the first few coats it was coming out ok until I had a can malfunction when I leaned over to hit the hood seal area. Got a couple drips off the can onto the side. Strategically placed decals should take care of it. Tried to leave the bottom purple but it looks stupid. Going to have to roll It over tomorrow and hit the bottom also. Will have all the parts this week will be On the water next weekend.

There are certain paints you can get from the automotive stores (Rattle cans) that they paint really lays down nice!!!!!!! Not like the Krylon cans. These have a blue tip that you can rotate the fan direction of the spray. I have only used the metallic type paints.

I was actually impressed with how well the paint laid down...made me wish I spent more time on the pinholes and where the rails meet the bottom...would have actually came out pretty nice...oh well, we are just going to ride it hard anyways...dont really care what it looks like...I spent the most time trying to smooth out the tubbie modifications and that actually came out the worst..the parts I didnt touch look ok...

That was my old ski..just a 96 round nose superjet with tubbies/quick steer and a ported motor. I just built my new ski almost identical..for me personally I can’t ride aftermarket hulls like I can a pre 08 superjet..I feel like the extra width/wide rails keep them from lying over when you are turning on the wave. That’s why I’m having reservations about the Wide rails on the fx. Think it will Be good for my son while learning but with him being so lite I hope he can put it on a rail still.. I ride heavy on my back foot so I don’t have a problem with pearling so being short/more rocker isn’t a benefit for me..my riding style is pretty unique though and I ride faster than most people. That video was all slow mo...I did try a hurricane apex hull that felt pretty good but it’s basically a slightly shorter superjet with the pole bracket moved forward. I definitely felt like I had to slow down with it and I couldn’t lay as much power into the turns with it being more slippery feeling but could do tighter more pivoty turns. Definitely my favorite aftermarket hull.View attachment 408100
Not that his head needs to get any bigger but your style is fun to watch. Enjoyed watching you and learning at Pismo. It’s fun to see different styles that you can study and learn from.
