Custom/Hybrid Getting new ski need help deciding. Rickter FR2 or 2014 superjet

Thanks to everyone for replying. I decided on a new superjet. Having blowsion do a couple things to it before I bring it home (bilge pump, pipe, etc). I'll post a picture once I have it. I'll do the Rickter next year.

DO NOT BUY A SJ. Seriously man, I bought a 2013 sj last year and I regret it so much. You will outgrow the thing so fast. Its been said on here millions of times that aftermarket hulls allow you to progress much faster than a SJ. Plus, IMHO I think the quality on new SJ's BLOWS!!!! check out my thread about the issues im having with mine http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/140029-What-should-i-do. I've been trying to fight with Yamaha but since these things aren't waranteed they have the mentality that they don't need to stand by their work. Buying a SJ instead of saving the extra for a rickter is the singlehandedly worst decision I have made in the last 5 years. after taxes I paid 9k for mine. Its been on CL now for a month for 7k and I haven't had one hit. Im trying like hell to get out from under it so I can move on to a fr2. If you are in the position to buy a rickter buy it. You can go with a 701 now and upgrade the engine later. don't waste your time with a Super Junk. If you're dead set on a SJ get a pre 08 for like 3500 until you outgrow it. that way you can sell it for what you paid or take a much smaller loss than im going to with my POS.

oh well I just read that you already decided. I would delete my post except I'm sure there are others in the same position as you. Good luck with yours. I hope you don't have the same experience as me.

I hope I don't as well. My plan is to ride it for a year and use the engine and other pieces for the rickter next year. I ride with a friend who has a 2013 superjet and hasn't had any problems. Sorry you had so many problems.

You'll have regrets -_- don't worry it will always run thru your head,I wish I would have gone aftermarket to begin with ..now my $#!t ain't worth what I paid for ...blah!

you don't have those regrets when you go straight to AM hulls :) lol. And for me, I wasn't expecting to get what I paid out of mine, but I'm pretty surprised that its depreciated 25% within 6 months especially when I see ads for 10-15 year old SJ's listed for 4K. My only point was if you're someone who is planning on going to AM soon, that kind of hit isn't worth it. although the OP is going to use the engine and parts for his build so his situation is a bit different. Lesson learned on my part. the sad thing is, you guys all warned me ahead of time and I went with a SJ anyway lol.

There is a chance that this guy likes to ride around, go fast, and chase bouys. Things that almost ALL A/M hulls suck at doing.

Really, Mine didnt ever crack the paint.

Honestly, Find a nice used Superjet all ready set up with head, pipe, prop, plate, grate, Handlepole, hood system. There is a nice Wamiltons SJ Hull with good engine package for sale right now for a great price.

if you're coming from mostly riding an sxr, i'd go with a superjet... just the capability alone between the two is huge... but i also wouldn't go brand new, you might think you won't be wrenching before you buy it.. but you will, you'll find the little things you want to change and spend more money doing them... i say this because the picture to the left is a 2012... i guess you could say i speak from experience.. buy a good used one, ride it a season or two and in the mean time save up for a/m hull to swap to... this time will also allow you time to figure out all the mechanics of the ski and give you time to add some upgrades to the engine and what not to make it more fun after a swap...

Another thing to consider is that all your stuff from a new superjet will not just got right into most a/m hulls. I think that the pump wont just bolt in to an a/m hull from an 08+. Im sure somebody. Here can clarify or correct me

pondracer, just putting in my 2 cents since i was in his exact same situation and i ended up going with the SJ. IMO yamaha quality control has slipped on the newer models. My ski is an example. dont mean to belittle your precious little yamaha. I for one wont give that company another dime of my money for the rest of my life.

Sure it will fit. Why wouldn't it?

I wanna offer my humble opinion here even though many would disagree. If you have NEW OEM SJ Money to spend then buy an AM hull complete boat even a lower level small engine older AM hull you will be skipping alot of costly frusterating steps this way. Find some and post them up for advise on here to decide what you should go with.
you can get am hull complete limmited setups for about 10K now days.

There is. The 2008 and up pump is setback. It still bolts in the same as before and is the same OAL.

So what "all your stuff from a new superjet will not just got right into most a/m hulls"?

I think you did the right thing man. Many do not have the money to go new OEM when they are still brand new to riding. Most of us bought used superjets then had to figure out all the weird mods and whatnot the previous owner(s) did to them. Not a huge deal, but if I had the money I'd buy a brand new one. The new bottom deck design is cool. It was made to ride super hard.

Yeah you could have bought an AM hull and an older superjet to swap the guts too, but since you are so brand new to it and you said you like freeriding around there isn't a better choice for that combo. Have fun!
