I just pulled the stock ground wire off of my FX-1. I also went to autozone the other day and bought some auto ground wire.

After looking at them both, it seems the stock is made of a silver internal wire while the cheap autozone wire is copper in color!

What is the stock wire made from?? stainless steal, steal, silver coated copper....??

It's tinned copper. This is a great place to get it. Nice people and quality wire. http://shop.genuinedealz.com/Marine Grade Wire/ They have all the terminals you'll need also. You can get it at West Marine, but it will be much more expensive.

I you just buy the wire be sure and get the tinned copper like crammit said. It will resist corrosion and last a whole lot longer than bare copper in a marine app. If you have to attach your own terminal ends then also get tinned terminals and solder them on the wire. This set up will last as long or longer than the OEM unit if you do it right. The tinned terminals can be found at West Marine or Boaters World, more expensive than bare copper but well worth it IMO.
