Do you let them sit in an unheated environment during the winter?

I brought mine into the house over the winters and they still died. I charged up 4 one fall, brought them into the house, 2 were dead come spring.

I have had better luck with batteries since i moved to South Carolina so i reccomend flying your toys south for the winter. :bigok:

I find that buying good quality batteries and treating them right makes them last.
I have killed Jetworks batteries, purely my own fault - letting then freeze, completely discharging, completely overcharging with a chitty non-automated charger.

I think that every conversation about batteries eventually gets steered towards what chargers people are using and how they are using them.

I have been using a cheap schumacher.

Brand: Schumacher - SE
Manufacturer Part#: SEM-1562A
Advance Auto Parts Part#: 17280006

I have only lost one battery (DEKA ETX14), since I started using this unit and I left the charger on it overnight. I guess the charger doesn't shut down like I thought it should, (fully automatic with float-mode monitoring). My new practice is to wash and clean my ski after a ride, disconnect the positive lead and put the ski away. The night before a ride, I throw the charger on til the "charged" light turns solid green and then remove it within a few minutes.

So my smart charger is not the best way to go? Does a person kinda need 2 types of chargers these days? One normal one and one tender?

I always, only, every time use a tender. Now that said, this is my 3rd full season and my deka and its knockoff cousin (frontier power) are just now failing. I used them on MSD TL and Epic. Both have worked flawlessly till this year. I'm happy with 3 seasons of punishment. Just replaced them with 2 new deka etx-9's.

I have 5 Tender Juniors, 3 that stay plugged in outside in my cold shed on my motorcycles, all batteries in those are OEM and all my Tenders have been great, one of those bikes is 10 this year!
I use them on my Ballistic 8 cell (1 year old only) but don't leave that one unattended, also have the ballistic charger, and an older 'super industrial' charger for non-trickle situations.
So far the Tenders and my 2 ballistics have treated me well, I have had skis for 25 years and rarely does any ski battery last more than 2 years for me.

I forgot!
I had a deka go 6 seasons with the tender. It will go into float mode that will slow draw current from the battery so that it will not eat itself from the insides and hence kill itself. If it is on float mode for a couple weeks you can unhook and re hook it up and it should start charging again. Usually it will start blinking meaning it is at 80% or more. Great chargers for little battery's or bigger batteries if you have 3-4 days to wait. Lol. That is where I use my smart charger that can charge quicker.
