Help diagnose problem

I have a 2005 sxr that has always ran great. Last year out of nowhere it would not get past idle without bogging down to a stop when it's in the water. When it is on the trailer out of the water it revs all the way up through the rpms just fine but as soon as it's back in the water it won't rev past an idle. It acts like it is getting too much fuel when it's in the water.

Like mentioned it ran perfect up until one day it just started this issue. I have replaced the head gasket, rebuilt the carbs and checked most of the water lines for blocks or cracks.

Any suggestions?

Compression was 165 in both cylinders. I did try riding it with the heat sensor unplugged and had no improvement to the issues. Any other ideas?

Usually that's a sign of low compression, but if it checks out good and it's not something simple like the heat sensor then its gonna be electrical related. You'll have to ohm the stator, then ohm the primary and secondary side of the ignition coil. If those two check out then I'd point fingers at the cdi.

Well I opened up the ebox and it was completely full of old coroded water. I'm pretty sure just about everything in here is ruined. Does anyone have good suggestions on where to get the replacement parts?

I have a new in the box regulator (under the CDI) and a near new coil with better wires and MSD ends I'd sell. If you end up needing them send me a PM.

Was it salt water of fresh? I agree with first cleaning good, drying everything out and reassembling it and see if it works. Nothing to loose by trying that. The water and crud looks relatively new, not old crusty like it's been there for years. Clean inside all the plugs good, not just the pins on the connections.

Most likely the water got in from broken joints. They are the white plastic things the plug wires and other wires pass thru into the box You can get new ones from JetManiac or Kawasaki. If you upgrade to the aluminum joints you can prevent the problem in the future, because the plastic joints do tend to break.

Check the Electrical Stator
the stator does nothing but charge the battery on 04 and newer sxr. its all in the cdi.
check the pins in the cdi. i know its not your problem , but i.ve seen 2 that one pin rots off and you lose spark.
just dry the box out completely. maybe put the oven on 100 degrees and make sure its baked dry. try it again without replacing or doing anything else

So i am cleaning all the plugs and wiring and drying out the box. I ordered a new ignition coil and starter relay from jetmaniac just to rule those out. Also got the new aluminum joints as the plastic one broke and i am pretty sure that is where the water came in from. It was fresh water, it has never been in salt. I am hoping the cdi is still good because the seem expensive!

Yes i did replace the needle and seats in the carbs.

Ill report back after its back together.

Right it wrong this is how I do it with my Yamaha's........Take it all apart. Undo all the connections. Put everything in rice. Let sit a couple days. Clean all connections and grounds till shiny again. Reassemble with dielectric grease on all the connections.

Ok so i replaced all electrical except the stator and i am having the same issue. The ski revs perfect out of the water, even when i run a hose through the cooling system it still revs perfect. Then the second it is in the water it will not rev at all, it barely idles. Could something be messed up in the pump that is preventing it from reving up? The pump spins fine out of the water. Any ideas?

It bogs to almost nothing like it is getting too much fuel and going to cut out. Then I let off and it will idle in the water but won't let me give it any throttle.

If it cuts off instantly when you hit the gas, thats lean. Rich and it would sputter and blubber. Pull the choke on a little and see it it helps.
