im wondering how much piston movement from the front of the block to the back of the block movement when installed is normal? there was only 2 washers per rod to put in with the bearing, but there is still 1/4'' of play id say....

Pro x pistons you do not need to use the oem shims.

Yes in a yamaha using pro x the slop is normal it centers itself in the cyl when you install it.

If its not to tight they wont hurt anything as long as there is still some play. I know several people that put them in and found out to late that there not needed before the motor was installed.
There is prolly room to get 1-2 more shims in on each piston if you wanted to

You leave too much room, and your wrist pin bearing starts walking too far off the rod though and wears extra fast and results in ugly situations...

use kawi wrist pin bearings in a Yamaha piston to avoid using the shims

If it is still loose, I would leave the shims in.

b1023 is the kawasaki bearing
if using a oem yamaha part you want the U3 bearing not the 701 U2 bearing that uses the shims
I think the U3 is for the yam 650
same as the kawasaki bearing
