Here we go… again… another Freak re-build

Been in/out/in/out of the sport for 30 years now, and find myself re-building a SF badass again. Bought it just to ride occasionally and before I knew what was going on, I had it completely disassembled.

I remembered seeing this hull in the past and wanted to keep the paint job even though it’s tired. But needed to do a few things like fix water lines, repair and paint bottom, and replace almost all parts… so why stop there, might as well try a new motor.

Fixing past repairs and scars from having fun on the bottom was first, actually finished it a few months ago.

Titled it too, so goal is to hopefully getting it on the water before I need to renew the CA registration

I did sleeve the waterlines and it came out well, but couldn’t get myself to leave it that way, so about to perform surgery and install stainless lines.

Also replaced the tired scupper with a new one, but planning to run a plug inside with a bilge pump.

Plan for the build is a 148 mag from Chris, TPE964 from Paul Lehr, and b-pipe. Going for simplicity and reliability. Zeel from Paul for ignition, though 25% of me wants to use the Enhancer maybe due to familiarity and have always been dependable for me. We’ll see.

Last freak I had a P&P built 1105 with total loss and it was a monster! Too much motor for m and the hull… was like drift car and mechanical bull combined on the water, every time I touched the throttle it kicked sideways or launched in the air, or just launched me in the air. Going for easier to control this time, I am getting old and totally ok with it

Everything will be new, from bolts to mounts. Except for the pole which was in great shape.

I’ll get into some motor details a bit later, I think it’s a work of art.

Had a few boxes from Chris show up shortly after disassembling the ski, old habits die hard. Glad he’s still supporting the sport.

The challenge with this one is that whomever painted it used silver pinstripe tape between the colors then cleared over it. Was thinking it would require more time than I have for tape sanding/removal and hull prep to get it flat.

That’s a OG paint job man, but I don’t think it’ll be that bad to get it prepped for paint if you choose to do so.
For sure time consuming

Those aren't chips and spiders, they're patina. And it earned everyone of them.

You remember all those Wammer Hulls and Superjets that Brian Virgin had painted up? His guy did this one. Mine was the twin in Blue, Silver and White. I kept the paint. Guy I sold it to painted it!

148 pump, it’s in, perfectly aligned and seal is tight. What a task.

Finished replacing the water lines with 1/2” stainless and had to replace the trim tube as well. Stuffed some pink foam and sealed it up like Frankenstein


Going to run a spring on this one, so added a carbon plate.
