Minor progress… finished making the bracket, pump mounted. Found that the rubber dampeners that washers/dryers are shipped with worked great to cushion the pump a bit.

But… my OCD is acting up and thinking of making another bracket with much less epoxy and/or a flat clear and align the fiber direction to the exhaust hose.

Primed the lines with the old windpipe and the first start was completely successful. Started, idled like a champ. Thanks Paul !

Working on a fire extinguisher mount (in Ca it’s almost certain I’ll get interrogated on a lake) and have some reg numbers on order.

Final glamour shots, I love how it turned out. It was expensive, no doubt, don’t want to add it up, but not sure I’ll be building another at this point so went all out.

Wow Joe! Turned out Sweet! Excited for a ride report! Enjoy the first splash!

In cali the extinguisher has to be readily accessible from outside the craft. Mounted inside doesn't work for the water pigs. Just letting you know because it's one of the few terminating offenses. Meaning they can kick you off the water.

Thanks for letting me know, wasn’t aware. Any other Ca nuisances? I couldn’t find much on-line, just USCG requirements.

Really depends where you are riding. Any sort of lake, especially popular ones, you can just about guarantee your going to get stopped. And the full check. They want a boat license. Extinguisher. Cf in the right place. And of course. Reg. Sometimes they pull the macho pig card and ask for a whistle. If you ride rivers, it's a lot less trouble. Basically if your not fishing where I'm from, they could care less what your doing.

An extinguisher and whistle are the only terminating offenses I know of. And if they write you a ticket for something else. Do not mention terminating offense until the ticket is done being wrote. Otherwise they will try and threaten to add a terminating offense to the ticket.

Ah, California at its finest.

I’m ok with the CL, whistle, and license. Biggest challenge will be mounting the extinguisher. Have to figure that out. Do you know where it’s stated that it has to be accessible? Couldn’t find it.

But did find this:

Free style/Trick riding is not permitted. This includes but is not limited to: 360’s, 180’s, submarining, jumping boat wakes within 100 feet of a vessel.

Yeh. You can't leave the water with the ski. But here in tehama. The sheriff throws us wake. Like I said it's dependent where you ride.

I don't know where it says inside. I know from personal experience of trying to mount the extinguisher inside the ski and being ticketed.

The extinguisher is intended to help other vessels. Not yours. It needs to be readily accessible. Was the officer reasoning. If you look an any oem ski. Its accessible from outside the craft. Maybe you can get away with it if you can't find any specific wording. I'd be very surprised

Thank you for the information I really appreciate it. This will be my first time riding in California, all of my riding in the past has been on the east coast and the Midwest.

The reason I ask, is because the OEM Kawasaki Sxr‘s have the fire extinguisher on the underside of the hood. But the sheriff’s point that he raised to you makes perfect sense from a sheriff’s point of view. Even if it isn’t a requirement to have it accessible, the time and effort to fight the ticket may not be worth mounting it to the FFH or something like that.

SXR's have extinguisher on the underside of the hood stock. Not sure mounting outside of the ski is an actual requirement.

I didn't know the sxr had that. Perhaps i and the cop was wrong. Idk. My extinguisher ticket was a fix it ticket so I was able to just strap it to the foothold on my ski and get it signed off. I believe it being correctable is up to the officer. It was still 15 dollars and a hassle I wouldn't want to deal with again. I distinctly remember the cop saying it can't be inside the ski tho. But they are wrong alot of the time. It was in redding/shasta County.

That being said. I don't have an extinguisher on any of my skis that I regularly ride. But I ride the sac river in bfe rural California. If and when I go to shasta, or other lakes. I stay near shore. Keep an eye out. And have all that bs they ask for readily available.

I also have a really bad attitude with law enforcement pretty much every single time I deal with them. So that might have alot to do with how my situations go.

The .ca gov website clearly says readily available you guys....

Sure, but how do you define readily available?

In my old wakeboard boat, OEM mounted under a seat. Would have to stop boat, run to back, pull seat, undo clips.

Not much different than stop ski, pull hood, undo strap.

Many couches have them in the front compartment… jump off, go to front, open door, release FE.

Depends on the cop I guess.
