Here we go… again… another Freak re-build

I'd bet if a guy argued. The officer would ask him to remove the extinguisher while in the water. Being under the hood would be a great way to sink the ski and get a ticket at the same time.

Readily available I think means the craft not sinking. Is that the new sxr that the extinguisher is under the good? The 4 stroke one? If so, that has vastly different buoyancy than a standard 2 stroke ski. Maybe that has something to do with it. That you can stand in the tray and grab the extinguisher?

Like who is going to climb onto a Fiberglass Boat that is on fire with a puny Fire Extinguisher Bottle?

The reality is that the tiny Jetski Fire Extinguisher is mostly there to meet USCG requirements but in practice, it's almost useless.

In real life, this is what is used. Unlimited Water Supply.

I’ve been pulled over for pretty much everything: no lanyard, no whistle, no fire extinguisher, no registration numbers, registration numbers in wrong place, no boaters license, non coast guard approved life vest, jumping boat wakes too close, too loud of a pipe, etc etc. For me, they have never been more than fix it tickets or they let me off with a warning. I just make sure that I am respectful and tell them I will get it fixed. But once you gain a rapport with your local water cops, they usually leave you alone/ just smile and wave. I agree, it totally depends on the lake you are riding at.

It’s been a while, so I thought I’d give an update.

Water test was flawless, Paul did a great job in setting up the motor, Zeel, and carbs. I brought a bunch of tools and spare parts, but I didn’t need anything, it was quite remarkable. Murphy’s Law in reverse.

I did have to adjust the pole a bit. I like a slightly longer pole than most, especially on this ski. But that’s all the wrenching I did on it’s first day on the water.

I love how these hulls handle. smooth, they don’t get manhandled by chop, they’re very playful. You can slide it around and have fun, and when you want it to bite you lean hard and get on the throttle and it’s sharp.

Still not sure if I’m going keep it. I’ve got a couple projects coming into the garage, so we’ll see.

I'll never sell my freak. I've ridden lots of different hulls and have yet to ride one i Iike better than the superfreak. All of my friends have tigercrafts everything from sv1 to sv pro to v2 to m1 to v3. The v3 probably rides the closest to the freak but doesn't recover as easily as the freak. And riding it in the surf is where it shines the most. At least the -4.3 to -5. It's almost cheating. Coming off a rockered -4 superjet, immediately I was able to do more actual surfing, slashing, re entries etc. So much room in the tray plus it's very wide with a low center balance.

Yeh. You can't leave the water with the ski. But here in tehama. The sheriff throws us wake. Like I said it's dependent where you ride.

I don't know where it says inside. I know from personal experience of trying to mount the extinguisher inside the ski and being ticketed.

The extinguisher is intended to help other vessels. Not yours. It needs to be readily accessible. Was the officer reasoning. If you look an any oem ski. Its accessible from outside the craft. Maybe you can get away with it if you can't find any specific wording. I'd be very surprised

Not to start an argument about commifornia, but square nose superjets and seadoo hx both factory extinguisher locations are inside the body. SN up in the 2 hood latches, seadoo under the hood in its own box. I find it hard (but not impossible in commiefornia) that they can ticket for a location that the federal USCG approved.
