Holy $#!+ I'm out of shape and old

Well I finally picked up a Superjet after looking for the right deal all summer. Um yeah, props to you guys that can give her hell on these things. I'm beat after about an hour of riding. Its been about 7 years since my last one (650sx) and I don't remember it being this physically demanding.

Before I picked this one up I had watched a few you tubes and I was thinking subs barrel roll, no problemo. Umm not happening for a bit.

If there were one exercise that translates directly to riding a ski...its the deadlift...If you can rep out a triple at 405 you can man handle your own weight on the ski...YES you will be sore for days before you get the tray time to be used to it! Stand ups are physical as poop!!!

Tray time will help over time and good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm really not that bad off. O work a physical job that keeps me moving and am only in my mid thirties. Just too many cheese burgers lately.

Definitely hit the gym! The exercises that seem to be most beneficial to my riding are shoulders and back. I have genetically bad shoulders, and riding a pole ski is pretty rough on mine.

I do tons of rows and lat pull down type exercises. These really help you when you fall off a million times and still have the strength to pull yourself back up.

Hurt my back recently (actually, cumulative over months of riding) on my superjet. Only 29 (have a pre-existing condition I was unaware of). It's been a bit of a struggle recently. I have a very physical job that I have been suffering through for month.

Best to get in better shape than necessary. I started crossfit recently (6 weeks ago) and have been enjoying it. Good exercise, very symmetric and group stuff helps with motivation.

Has a rep for injuries because of stupid people and poor trainers. Just don't be stupid and don't buy into "the sport of fitness". Take the time to use good form and don't lift like you have something to prove.

I'm not in bad shape but apparently because of that condition I mentioned, I am going to have to be in above average condition if I want to stay in this sport. or wakeboarding, or anything else I like to do.

I follow a pretty basic workout schedule that really helps all around and as a result never really feel tired doing anything. Except loading the dishwasher! Had some folk with less active jobs apply this to good effect. They just up the cardio time and if they do not ski just do some sprints once a week for 5 mins. sprint 10secs, jog 20 secs x 10

Week 1 volume training (10 sets of 10 per bodypart, Week 2 heavy, Week 3 supersets/giant sets. Same daily structure.

Mon: Chest/Tris
Tue: Cardio 1.5mile fast
Wed: Back/Biceps
Thu: Cardio 1.5mile fast
Fri: Shoulders
Sat: Am Legs/ PM SKI Comp LWDE
Sun: AM/PM SKI Use a stock SJ for functional fitness and long riding. Soon to replace with bot.

My day job is active enough involving a lot of functional fitness load bearing etc over 4-5 hrs. so I try not to spend too long in the gym. Also keep gym cardio short.

I'm with ya. I'm in pretty good shape (for my age) and about 1 hour is just about my limit as well. The more you ride the more you will condition your body for this type of riding.

A body in motion stays in motion. It works for everything. Im only 27 but I feel my joints at times. I'm not slowing down now, or anywhere in the future. When I take a break from riding I feel it worse. Seriously.

I don't subscribe to the whole workout everyday at the gym thing. I've been 205 lbs before. I've been 155 lbs. currently at 170, and I'm in way better shape, and way more flexible, faster, and more stamina, than my bigger buddies who "lift". Working out at the gym helps build muscle, it doesn't translate directly to work or real life. Except getting laid. It will help some things, but nothing will work those muscles better than using them in the real world.

That's true to a degree, but it depends on the workout plan that you're using too. I'm going to start a new gym regiment soon, but it will be more interval walking and stretching than lifting... and pushups, many many pushups. I need more muscle to burn this last 20 pounds of fat that I'm trying to lose.

Nutrition is a big part of it too. I'm down to 197 and haven't been under 200lbs since 2009. I was at 213 a couple months back. FYI, I use the same products that each contestant exclusively used on "Extreme Weight Loss". If you are interested in free samples, enter your info on my website. www.bodemakeover.com

Yeah like functional fitness. Important.

Funny I just go to the gym for the strength. Nothing like weighing 175 and using 2x 120lb dbells off the floor unsupported for flat bench and still able to able to run and bike 10k.

I'm in the same boat as you time wise. I 6' 3" 285 pound fat guy but I love riding my superjet. Just bought mine at the beginning of the summer it wears out my back after out riding. I stop and then go back out after a few minutes. I been riding quite often through used up over 6 quarts of oil since beginning of June.
