How is it mounted..Just bolts on with the original backing plate and 4 SS bolts? Will the bolt heads clear the ratchet movement?

Mounts using 1 larger bolt, fender washer, and nylock nut provided. Bolt head is totally out of the way of the ratchet movement.

You can install however you want. I have seen installs where the stock latch was left in place and this strap was used in addition.
Otherwise remove stock latch and install. Usually drilling a new hole in the middle and add a plate/fender washer behind.

I got mine installed and put it to the test all weekend. Works great! Here's some pics of it installed on a stock hood. I mounted the straps under the pole bracket and used a soldering iron like they mentioned above to make the holes in the straps.
