Freestyle hooker 9/15 vs stock 2012 SJ impeller

Sweet pic man!
although it really has nothing to do with the amount of air being allowed into your carbs.

I run a stock box on my play boat to keep water out but it also keeps the air out...
You're correct, the pic has nothing to do with anything. However, I'm slowly convincing people to just try the 62t oem airbox. So many have ditched it for cool look of the cone type filters for no better reason than everyone else is doing it. I don't know of any actual flow test comparison that has proved either one better than the other. What I do know is the 62t oem airbox is far superior at preventing water intrusion and I know of a few people running that box on 1000cc Dasa engines without issue. One of them being a pro, and I discussed it quite a bit with him.

The surf can get pretty nasty here and water intrusion can end your day or season very quickly. It's just not worth it. Plus the oem airbox came with the engine originally, so chances are guys already have them. Why waste money on something inferior? I guess the cone filters look cool, but they're the first thing I'd remove from a surf ski. Actually, the scupper might be the first thing to remove followed by the cone filters.

Cheers

Riley

Whether people prefer to use the stock box in surf is beside the point.

Aftermarket filters Are less restrictive than stock, that is fact. That is what we are discussing here.

Aftermarket filters can perform better than the stock boxes. In a freeride boat this performance difference may be out weighed by the need to deflect water. the need to deflect water can vary based on you hull / hood ect ect

As much as I don't care to argue with you, where exactly are you getting these facts? Have you calculated any of this? Do you have any experience in this?

Most people will suggest keeping the stock air box as it is better at keeping out water and is less restrictive.
Totally agree you can't beat stock air box any am airboxs will give no power increase but let water in really easy

All you really need to be concerned with is the amount of pop off you set your carbs up with and then correlate the amount of restriction in your flame arrestor accordingly.

I found that the stock 62T/64X air box gives a larger amount of air to the front carb than the rear and makes tuning between cylinders different due to the amount of air to each one. 1, 2 or 3 screens makes no difference other than the restriction to help with pop off.

Something as simple as removing your choke flaps and adding a primer will net you less restriction in the carb throat and alter the way your ski runs with the same pop off setup.

I got swallowed by a huge barrel and was separated from my ski, it ended up upside down 50ft away as I watched it as it headed towards the rock jetty due to a strong current and big waves keeping someone from getting me eventually he got me to my ski as I tried to keep it of the rocks while being pounded by the white water from the waves. Now I dont know how long it was upside down for but it was a lot longer then 1 minute (hell I was waiting to get someones attention for longer then a minute) all I was trying to do was save my ski from the rocks and just hoping I can get it to shore all while still being upside down, after a few minutes of realizing no one can help me without losing their own ski I thought F it ill flip it over and at least give it a try and boom started right up (its all about how you roll it over).

My ski was upside down for easily 3-5 minutes being pounded by waves

Point is for argument sake I said 1 minute before because its easily believable and the claim I always hear around the forums is that if you have a scupper your ski will sink when it goes upside down in 20 seconds which is not the case.

@BruceSki was there he can back it up

Your ski wasn't upside down for that long, @BruceSki wasn't the one who grabbed your ski from the rocks, I was. & your ski is so clapped out idk how it runs at all, let alone you getting lucky enough for me to swoop in and save your pile of junk

You must have been high AF that day. You started to run in the water but I left before you got to me.
