Hooker pitches for strokers

I tried a 12/18 -7mm hooker in my mag pump. It was a huge letdown. First it was cutback enough that the hub rubbed the pump. Finaly found a washer to put behind it and ran it only to find it slips like a mad. It was pitched for my setup and its not even close. Getting them on the phone is about as bad. May have to wait until winter for them to answer their phone again.

no I mean 40mm... was joking... a 9/15 is good for a limited setup... how the hell is it going to work with a stroker with tl... no way its going to keep the pump loaded... I guess you could try it with a stock bore but I dont think that would be small enough... I was being overdramatic... personally I think it would not be very efficient...

I am running a Hooker 9/15 on my limited setup and love it. (It even did great in the surf today)

My limited set up is as follows

Lamey 5mil stroker w/85 mil flat tops=828cc
218psi in both holes
multi channel dig t/l w/static set at 31* pullin it back at 5k
Novi 48 single w/V Force 2 reeds/cages buring 100LL w/Benol
B pipe w/Crammit's carbon limited chamber w/oem waterbox run REAL dry
85 mm exit nozzle w/Virgin straight pull trim w/wet wolf stubby(tried stk cone and killed it)

I love my Hooker 9/15 and the people that have ridden my ski that should know what they are talking about say it's propped right. (for my riding style-freestyle ONLY-lil or no freeriding). (And no barrel rolls) lol

I just got done fiddling with a 13/19 Hooker tonight. I went from a 13/16, 3mm cutback concord. It felt like someone put a spring on my throttle cable. My motor does not have enough off-idle pop to get this thing moving. Once I'm on plane and have the rev's up, it pulls like no-ones buisiness, but getting it there is too much of a struggle. My motor set-up is an 81mm bore, non-PV Lamey cylinder, 8mm stroker, 191 psi, analog total loss.

I've got to talk to Dave on Monday.

Do it twice?That's DooDoo
my motor spun my 13/18 hooker too much... maybe my 870 8mil lamey was too much? hell I dont know... 86mm nozzle bore and raider reduction nozzle had a lot to do with it prob... I run a 14/19 skat mag now and it works... the 13/18 did ok once I put in the r&d afterburner (like tbm)... still spun just a little.... the 14/19 mag is tits... sticking with it... think the 13/18 is good for a small stroker... either prop snaps like crazy though... loved both just the hooker still spun slightly

It takes at least an aftermarket BB cyl to pull a stock 13-17 concord. I always end up bending blades and boring nozzles to get the rpm up.

My OPINION and mine only

What bore is your exit nozzle at? These newer style props (C75 and Hooker) seem to 'load' the pump waaaay toooo much with a stk bore nozzle. Mine was chit until I had Tricky bore my exit nozzle to 85mm.
My ski felt like I had a potato stuck in the exhaust hose-would not 'rev out'.

Hope this helps

I have a 13/17 -3mm concord in my wifes limited. W/o a bored nozzle-it sucks real bad-w/a 85 exit nozzle-it does real well.

85.5mm bored SJ nozzle with stock cone.
I wonder if I should try a short cone and see if that loosens things up a little?

hey Matt, try the cone, that will free it up some. Also, I have a 10-16 Hooker that does good on my LPW 84mm Stock Stroke, If you want I can send it up to you to try, I am not riding much right now. (just pay freight, I am broke). I could probably get it out on monday. (I have a plain skat I can put in while you have mine- but I dont expect to ride in the next few weeks).

These new large hub props do load a lot more than I expected based on their pitch numbers. What sucks most is that I usually cant bend the blades enough to fix an overload problem.

what size mag do you have? also do you still have the 13/18?

I might take you up on that - just so that I can cut down on shipping time back and forth to Dave for tuning.

Hey BK, are you using a wetwolf cone? Is your nozzle bored? I have the same setup and I'm going to see Paul today. It seems like it is slipping some.

does a mag pump change your props that much? or is it just a lack of hp?

with my judge 81 bore 6mm p/v motor speedwerx pipe i run a 142mm mag pump with a tubby 2" setback and it slips a 15/22

Paul told me today to put the stock cone back on. He said a TBM pump cone would be even better. I'm spinning the 10/16 Hooker some with a 771 flat top, total loss, tnt pipe, and dual 44's on a Boyesen intake.

Now I'm thinking....will a TBM pump cone work with a Hooker prop?
