Blaster Hoping someone on this site is willing to give advice on misc b1.

I had this on pwctoday with not 1 response but if you post in the wtb section over there you will get like 100 peeps hitting u up. And this looks like a helpfull site so Im hoping for some feedback.

I am building a 94 B1 for my wife and just have a few questions.
Here is a list of mods to the ski.
RIVA RED PIPE.
RIVA WATER BOX.
WC HEAD WITH 30cc DOMES
REC PORTED 61x CYL
LIGHTENED FLYWHEEL
44 SBN
K&N OVAL F/A WITH A 45* F/A ADAPTER
BLUEPRINTED PUMP
BORED NOZZLE
SKAT 14/17 and 14/17 SOLAS.
UMI STEERING
RIVA GROOVY R/P

Im looking for advice on.

TIMING ADVANCE??
BASE GASKET THICKNESS?? 61X CYL
HEAD GASKET THICKNESS?? I really want the bottem to snap but still want mid 50's.
Wanting to say under 185psi but 170 or above. YOUR THOUGHTS??

WHAT IMPELLER?? 14/17 skat or 14/17 solas. skat has bigger hub. Mainly just being used on a small buoy course. YOUR THOUGHTS?? OR EVEN DIFFERENT PROP. these are just the 2 I have right now.

WHERE TO GET A REAR EXHAUST OUTLET FOR A GOOD DEAL??

HULL MODS??

STEERING MODS??

THOUGHT ABOUT SMALLER TANK??

TOP LOADER OR DEEP SCOOP??

WHICH REEDS DO YOU LIKE?

THOUGHT ABOUT DOING TRIM? ARE YOU RUNNING IT? WHAT IS YOUR SET UP?

I know it's alot but just tryn to get other insights on this. I want to get the right stuff the first time. and I dont have time to sit here and go threw 1000 diff post. I have already tried.

Your time and feedback will be greatly apreciated.

Here is a list of mods to the ski.
RIVA RED PIPE. works ok if you dry out the water a bit
RIVA WATER BOX. stock one works better, raider 701 box best, but you need to install in the rear
WC HEAD WITH 30cc DOMES just get compression around 180

REC PORTED 61x CYL good if the porting is done right
LIGHTENED FLYWHEEL great
44 SBN no way your gonna see more than 50 with this carb alone
K&N OVAL F/A WITH A 45* F/A ADAPTER
BLUEPRINTED PUMP not that much help
BORED NOZZLE slows you down but quicker off the bottom, the bigger the bore the bigger the pitch needed.
SKAT 14/17 and 14/17 SOLAS. both props are to small a stock blater prop is 15 /18
UMI STEERING
RIVA GROOVY R/P good for speed but handles like crap

Im looking for advice on.

TIMING ADVANCE?? not unless you want to run race gas, just use a enhancer
BASE GASKET THICKNESS?? 61X CYL leave alone stock is fine
HEAD GASKET THICKNESS?? I really want the bottem to snap but still want mid 50's.
Wanting to say under 185psi but 170 or above. YOUR THOUGHTS?? you need a girdled head with that heavy pipe on it

WHAT IMPELLER?? 14/17 skat or 14/17 solas. skat has bigger hub. Mainly just being used on a small buoy course. YOUR THOUGHTS?? OR EVEN DIFFERENT PROP. these are just the 2 I have right now. hooker 11/17 or solas j prop if you wan the most speed

WHERE TO GET A REAR EXHAUST OUTLET FOR A GOOD DEAL?? not worth the headache, it does not improve anything, just keeps the pump clean. but does look cooler : )

HULL MODS?? tons, but you need to know what your doing or you can screw up a good boat easy.

STEERING MODS?? you can try a extended nozzle but you need a thicker cable or the stock will bend

THOUGHT ABOUT SMALLER TANK?? why

TOP LOADER OR DEEP SCOOP?? worx 201 is great all around, riva is the best for speed but hooks up like crap

WHICH REEDS DO YOU LIKE? vforce 2"s but you got a 61x. so you can only run stock cages with reeds. try carbon tecs

THOUGHT ABOUT DOING TRIM? ARE YOU RUNNING IT? WHAT IS YOUR SET UP? unless you have serious horsepower it is not needed on a limited ski. my son weighs 85 lbs. pulls holeshots on everyone in spec class with no trim. learn to ride the boat : )

Lee pretty much answered all your questions. I would definitely go with the hooker 11/17 prop. Other than pipe, those were the best mods we did to our spec skis. I do like rear exhaust kits myself. Like Lee mentioned, they really don't add any performance, but they keep the inside of the pump tunnel clean. If you need one, let me know, I have a couple, I could sell one. If you want to port the ski, Judge Motorsports is the best there is. The only other thing I would add is a girdle kit. Yamaha cylinders are famous for cracking at the flange point. Especially if you bump the compression.

Hope this helps. The blasters is a great ski and only gets better with more power.

open and shut............

follow Lee's advice.

:starwars:...Not so fast please!

Tell your wife that I am a serious fan of this seat mod!!!

I am petite…that guy is lanky…it works well both ways.

He is friendly and extremely helpful, so you can pm him with additional questions, if you so choose. Perhaps someone you know that is good with such could assist, if you happen to not have much experience with that extensive of a mod.

and tell your wife I said hello please! :wavey:

Great Lee! I think both of you will like the seat mod, I really do!!! I noticed your profile page today, and it looks interesting! You should start a build thread when you begin your mods! I am sure many here would love to see the progress in action! Plus, I am very interested in hearing how your wife ends up taking to her new ski!

i have a pjs ride plate and a r&d intake grate works freaking sweetttttt hooks up great and will turn on a dime.

and with a red pipe and a single carb i bet it wont do 45mph,

as for a prop i have a ported pump and a solas 15/19 and it hooks so good you can barely hang on,

hull mods cut off the rear lip that hangs off the back it does wonders!!!!!!!!!
AND defoam the whole ski its much more nimble BUT harder to get on and you can sub it

turns better goes faster, it does get a little wobbly at high speeds but it turns soooo much nicer,

and get some wider taller bars, i cant get on a b1 with stock bars its really wierd,

i was thinking of adding rear sponsons and cutting off the lip on the back... just not sure how much it would help me in the turns.

I race my B1 and I use the Shredmaster intake and plate (Its all one piece) and I LOVE IT

Also, I think it's worth noting that most if not all of godocgo's suggestions above are specific to a race boat. Many of which are not exactly ideal on a freeride boat.

Actually Lee's comments were spot on answering his questions. Yes, lee has a background in racing, but most are changing to more of a stock spec which is not much difference from a freeride boat, plus the OP requested that he have top speeds in the Mid 50's To attain this speed you would have to look at it from a race setup not a freeride setup and Lee basically said with the general setup he is running that it would be impossible to get in the mid 50's. Lee and Scottie know more about setting up and specing out B1's that anybody on this site.

The end goal that all these questions were based around was a bit vague (IMO) and godocgo's answer was very specific to a certain type of boat but he didn't come out and say it. So I did. Not correcting, just clarifying.

When we designed spec class, one of the things we wanted was a ski that could race one day and lake ride/surf ride the next. I must say, we did a good job. At Wavedaze last year, I thought my spec set up was just about perfect for playing in the small Va Beach surf. Others must have too, cause every time I came in from a ride, someone else would ask if they could take it out, lol.

In my opinion, the only thing my spec ski needs to be a perfect surf only ski would be reinforcements, footstraps and a shorter seat.

Never done that but I've heard it kills the way the blaster turns. Why do you like that mod??

nooo way it turns sooo much better, my friend has a stock hull, and mine turns soo much better, i personally like it a lot more, but like i said it makes it a little tipsy at high speeds you have to work harder to ballance it,

Care to expand on this? Taking out a couple pounds of foam does this how??

umm the ski is not as buoyant and it goes under easier, my ski barely floats with all the foam out, with a full tank just sitting in the water the nose of the ski is almost under water,
