hotel next to the makai?

I'm working on bigger and better things for next years event. It will probably be in a different spot, but this year will be in the same place as always. I have lots of options in this town and just need to figure out the best hotel and so on for access and accommodations...

Makai has served us well, but it's about time to move on..

Well, IMHO, the Makai works well for a number of reasons:
1) They own a VERY large empty parking lot maybe 1/2 mile from the hotel, right on the beach, next to their sister hotel. It's fenced and locked. I left my truck and trailer there, with I think a brand new VX Cruiser on it the whole weekend, with no worries.
2) Right across the street from the Makai, on the far side of the empty lot, there is a street that's a dead end that several guys with campers and small motor homes were able to camp on, right on the street, and nobody bothered them. I talked to some guys who had like a 28' travel trailer, and they said the drank and slept there the whole weekend and nobody bothered them....not even the cops. I considered doing the same this year maybe to save some $$$$.
3) Proximity of the beach access to the hotel/event headquarters is primo, IMO.
4) They tolerate us very, VERY well (i.e. stunt bike mike, for those of you who haven't been there)


The only downside that I can think of (other than the hotel being basically a dump), and again, it's just MY opinion, is that steel ramp that leads from the grass area where we put our skis to the beach. Everytime I'm there, I think "man, that's just an accident waiting to happen (and a lawsuit)." And it's such a pain to pull a Blaster up it at the end of the day, even with a beach cart.
I thought for SURE this year they'd have that fixed, but no go. It's still there.

How does the Coral Beach Resort compare to the Makai?

Jason, here is the way I figure it:
If you come with the guys or by yourself, you stay at the Makai.
If you bring the woman, you don't stay at the Makai.

MAKAI is perfect as long as they put up with the mess we create . location location location! access and accommodations , I dont think you can find a better spot than this ... who else is going to put up with the trash that our pigs throw around because they dont recognize a trash can ? who else is going to put up with 10 skiers in wetsuits and shoes getting warm in the hottub all at once ? who else is going to put up with 4 ft of detergent soap suds and on top of the hot tub and 1 ft of sand in the bottom of the tub ? who else is going to put up with all of the sand dragged through the hotel , parties all nite long in the parking lot , wrenching on skis on the grass !, gas cans on the porches/decks/ jet ski in the elevator , plenty of parking ,900 lbs of fireworks 50 ft from the hotel ? and not to mention the total disrespect of the hotels property by way too many of this group just because they can ...... better just keep the party here as long as your welcome , I'll bet if it gets moved to a NICER place it will be for just one year because we wont be invited back ! IMO! Makai is perfect , lets keep it here . dont leave till ya get thrown out ! IMO

I am getting a permit for the 4000ft zone, so it can be anywhere in Daytona/Ormond beach. That's why I think looking around for next year will be a good idea. We could do it right next to the pier in front of the Ocean deck, or anywhere for that matter...
