How dirty will you go?

We have lake Elsinore in Southern California AKA Lake smell-some-more nasty dirty antifreeze green color. I tried seeing how deep I could see my shoe. I could not see it after 6 inches of water. It looks bad but its actually not that polluted it is more of an algae bloom.

I did a ski show at a theme park in vallejo ca for the summer of '06, and the lake/pond the show was in was where the citys storm drains went to. So when the storm washes all the crap off the city streets and who knows what else ends up in them, it drained right into our lake. After the storm you could see the yellow and thick foamy water covering over half the lake, and random crap floating everything...one time there was a porta potty floating in the middle, but the show was cancelled that day so nobody actually had to get in the water with it.

i will add that cleveland can get bad but its not that often. once a summer maybe, we can get a storm that dumps that much rain that it overflows the sewage like that. and you skip riding for a week. its not a constant thing.

Lake of the Ozarks, public beaches were closed due to water conditions (POOP). Rubbers floating in party cove that go easily right through the pump............

Same here

and people say our lake is gross from silt and agriculture runoff
Same here, Buena Vista Lake is shallow and green, and on the East end you can smell the local mega-dairy, but it's nothing like some of those stories. Just lots of duck poop.
We did have a fish kill last year where I was riding through hundreds of dead catfish, but that's about it.

You guys are making me feel ill! I ride at Lake Guntersville in Alabama, and I guess it's pretty clean, although I never thought of it that way! We get weed around the edges, but that's no big deal. The algae makes the water green and visibility poor, but the worst I have to dodge on the surface is the occasional dead bass. We have very clean lakes north and south of here - Timms Ford up in TN, and Smith lake further towards Birmingham. Both have clean cool water all summer.

I guess I'm spoiled and didn't even know it!

We have a creek here that I play in that has a poop plant dead on the creek. The creek is a runoff for the whole town. Its name is Dunloop Creek. They say it got its name because its "dunlooped" us already.... We call it the poopy loop. Quick swift rapids, 3'-15' waterfalls and deadly mosquitos that look like hummingbirds! Who wants to hang out with me??

I ride in the Fox River in illinois, said to be one off the nastiest rivers in the U.S. Every year we get the "River Cough", swallowing the water creates a terrible caugh and headache. Then your body gets used to the bacteria and it goes away a week later.

If someone is paying me, I will ride in radioactive waste. :smashfreakB:

One time I went to get in the man made lake and noticed ALL the fish were dead and floating on top of the water. I mean, all the fish! I got a few of them inside my wet suit, maybe one in my mouth. :puke:

Wow I feel pretty lucky, Oceanside is really clean compared to some of these stories. We get the occasional red tide and storm runoff wood in the line up and even sometimes plumes of choped up seaweed that clogs your pump but all in all even those are pretty rare. I think the Pacific Ocean is just so big it can absorb anything we can throw at it and dilute it to where its not noticeable (Even so I do not condon dumping anything in the Ocean)

if you get the red pilot boat its over head....normal tugs 4-5 feet an steep..

No kidding here !!
That boat is insane....and the guy loves jetskis.
Last time I was out there with Chad, the guy kept playing with the boat as to trow more wake, going sideways, slow and fast.....
He kept waving at us to hit it too......
That is as good as "surf riding" gets in the bay area.......LOL!
