Im on another (different non-jetski) forum that charges $20 for a lifetime subscription. This subscription allows you to have and avatar (non members cant have one) and allows you to have access to a top secret members only area. Works pretty good and regular visitors almost always pay the $20

Rob at PWCToday tried that once. Just stirred up more crap. Honestly dont see the need for a "Special" area. Nothing to gain.

I cannot remember if we ever did anything like that. At one time I think we had something that showed how much support you gave, but did away with it because we want everybody to have access to the site equally. Granted, we are discussing changing that as far as the Marketplace goes. We could just delete it all together. That has been discussed also. Keep in mind that all money brought in by donations is stricky used only for site expenses.

I personally like the idea that you only get access to post for sale items if you support the site. heck its not even the price of 2 gallons of gas, perhaps they can get the 1st couple free
I think those who pony up are less likely to be problem sellers
Db

also If the site is in need of $ Im fine with an additional fee to post in the "new products section as well"

x2 on site supporters only being able to create threads in the classifieds. And if a non-supporter posts a classified in the main or other forums smack them with the banhammer.

WTB and feedback should be should be kept outside of needing to support.

Mtbr.com's system is ok, but that site is "for profit", too. That's Francis' full time job. X-H2o should be self supporting, but it's been stated that you're not trying to make a profit. IMO, you've put over 6yrs into this site and deserve a little reward now and then.

I fully understand that this will be a balancing act, between keeping happy members, and pushing some toward other sites with free classified sections. I truly considder a classified ad as an advertisement. We're spoiled in this day with free craigslist, but before that we paid to sell items in the local newspaper or Ebay. A small fee per posting is fair, but I'm affraid will be subject to abuse. A mandatory membership to the site will drive people away to some other free site. An optional paid premium membership (at the current or higher fee) with selling priveleges seems to be the easiest to implement. It wouldn't force anyone to pay, and would still allow non members to buy from paying sellers.

So do we have enough support to add a poll option yet? Support the site with yearly fee, for ability to post new threads in for sale section.

Just another idea.....how about you get a certain number of sales per year free, and once you go over that you need the subscription/site supporter status.

(I'm still advocating free, just tossing an idea out there.)

Not being able to edit posts in for sales threads would suck. It's been a disaster at PWCToday. Besides, we can see what was edited when.

Best idea yet, and to stop people from using the same thread over and over again you could have them automatically close after a certain time period.

Yep, this is what I'd suggest. Problem you might have is people creating more than one identity so they get more free sales threads.

And, yes, Editing is a MUST! It's one of my major complaints on PWCT.

Actually I was not joking. Tim, keep in mind we are just batting ideas around. We could have easily just said "Here is the deal, you will now pay $1.00 per for sale thread" and not given anybody a choice. MTBR.com does it this way, they have a separate "For Sale" Section. for additional $ you can post a link to it. You cannot just go in the forum and make a "For Sale" thread. But we decided to throw it out there. Now, There are several here who are "Power Sellers" who are making alot of money at the sites expense and are reaping the rewards. One Seller has been considerate and consolidated most of his stuff. Now, is it fair for them to profit from this site? Now, you got the guy selling a part for $15.00, yes, $1.00 cuts into that. But what about the guy selling a $5,000.00 Lamey Shortblock? That is a chunk of change. Or they guy that is selling a $18,000.00 turn key Superfreak/XFS/Vision........... You cannot tell me he is not making money. Ebay charges a percentage of the sale, we are not proposing that.

That's what I thought. your ideas and Jett's first post are not even similar. You're trying to capture some of the profit, he is trying to clean up the for sale forum.

The can of worms is now opened.

...chaos? Its Fair!
What if the options were like this.

To post in the for sale section, you first must be a subscribed member.

Then people who sell a ton of stuff would pay an extra $10 (or whatever value is established) a year for unlimited threads.

And for people who sell like 2 or 3 things per year pay $1 for each thread.

My .02

Big X2 to that one. Although paying the current subscription fee of $10 in order to post in the for sale section would not be an issue for me.

I think that most users of this site are pretty invested in the X-h2o web community and would not be too likely to go somewhere else due to a nominal subscription fee.

Limit everyone to one thread that they can edit/manage themselves with any and everything they have for sale, sort of like a for sale booth for each member? No charging money, just keeps people organized? Just an idea, Im sure it has its flaws.

LOL, he is the one with the access to the account!!!!!!!! LOL.

But I like how you think!!!!!!!!!!! Then maybe I could afford one of those short hulls like everybody else with one of those 1 litre motors!

I am for paying a higher annual fee. I am still thinking the one dollar a thread deal could be a hassle, maybe not.
If we pay more and the jett or bk or matt_e, or anybody makes a little pocket change or enough for and extra present for the kids at xmas, Thats all good to me. Keeping this site running so well they earn it.

Some of you guys have been here for a long time, some guys dont even ride anymore, or maybe forgot how valuable this site is to our community.
If I pay double or even triple what I payed last year that is not even a fraction of the savings on parts, free technical info, and straight up bro love thats I have experienced on the X.

Straight up, if I had to pay PER POST that I made in the For Sale Section, I probably wouldnt sell here anymore.
However, I WOULD be 110% willing to pay like even up to a 40 or 50$ yearly fee.
I dont want to sit around counting threads that I open to see how much I am going to owe and what not...

I think 10$ a month should stay the way it is, and then if you want access to being a SELLER in the For Sale section- Then you have a few options...
Pay per post at 1$ per post.
Or unlimited for the year for like "xx" amount.
Or 25 for sale threads for 20$...

Because to do 1$ a thread, no other options would kind of suck.
I mean how often do you see something posted, then it is taken down for a varity of reasons, or having to bump your thread shouldnt cost you a 1$...
That adds up VERY fast for people who sell alot on here.

Id be willing to pay like a 40$ fee to post in the for sale section....
