How lazy do you need to be.....

Just plain me....
I like the roller Idea.. but casters can add up quick. not to mention, the whole Idea was to have the ramp bunks stow under the ski so that I'm not cluttering up my bed. this is for a x-country trip and I'm hauling a dirtbike all my gear for both, tools, etc. Plus since it's "officially" a business trip. I need a couple suits as well.

good ideas on both of those though.
Brit's setup actually uses in-line skate rollers, if I remember correctly.

I have one I built out of steel a few years back,it too has a harbor freight style winch on it,it has a steel ramp with plastic wheels on it that attaches to the rack to get the ski on and off the truck.I used old rub rails off of a YAMAHA Waverunner XL on top of the bunks instead of carpet.Since I usually ride alone its the best money I have spent in this sport so far, plus you can carry two skis on the back of the truck and whatever you can pull behind the truck.

use some PAM cooking spray on that carpet, and it will slide up easier!

the problem is it will slide DOWN easier too.

way great idea and implementation!

Add a nylon drawstring bag over that winch, and Ill bet it will last for ever ( weather protection)

pics in the truck. it does exactlly what is was supposed to do.

I still have a few tweeks and finla trin things to do. but for the intents of this excercize, I'd call it a resounding success.

I beg to differ on the harbor freight air tools being junk. I bought one for $20 there...a 3/8 and that bish will take off lug nuts :haha: I think it's cheap since there is no governor. lol. Well its been working for a while now, I am definitly happy about it. Sweet setup also man!

Great job. Anxious to hear a report after your trip:bigok:

Well, you asked for it, so here it is.

I loaded up from MI in 40 degree weather with a truck load of crap to head to Orlando FL the end of Apr. I drove non stop, and had a very uneventful trip. once here I loaded and unloaded the ski with no real issues at least 6 more times before catastrophe struck. The actual winch mount, not the winch, failed. It tore the 2x4 holding it right off the rack whille loading it at a boat ramp. I had to get some help getting it the rest of the way into the truck till I could fix it. I swapped out the top plate with a 2x6 ( had been a 2x4) and reinforced it with 2 large "L" brackets I made from 1/8" Aluminum. they are 3" per side and 3" wide then just screwed in place with deck screws. then as an added precaution, I added a 1/8" Aluminum plate to the entire brack side of the winch stand. I know it's overkill but I dont want a repeat performance of what happened at Lk. Monroe. Other wise it's held up great.

Thats a nice rig, I was thinking of building something like that for my pontoon. I was just gonna use a trailer winch but that electric one might be the way to go.
