bought my wood and winch yesterday, mater of fact.
I plan on slightly different tower rack, but love how everytihng else rides.
Also think i'm going to use hot products plastic slides instead of casters. But havent decided if i even really need to drop $20 on those or not. Anyone recommend them?

Well, you asked for it, so here it is.

I loaded up from MI in 40 degree weather with a truck load of crap to head to Orlando FL the end of Apr. I drove non stop, and had a very uneventful trip. once here I loaded and unloaded the ski with no real issues at least 6 more times before catastrophe struck. The actual winch mount, not the winch, failed. It tore the 2x4 holding it right off the rack whille loading it at a boat ramp. I had to get some help getting it the rest of the way into the truck till I could fix it. I swapped out the top plate with a 2x6 ( had been a 2x4) and reinforced it with 2 large "L" brackets I made from 1/8" Aluminum. they are 3" per side and 3" wide then just screwed in place with deck screws. then as an added precaution, I added a 1/8" Aluminum plate to the entire brack side of the winch stand. I know it's overkill but I dont want a repeat performance of what happened at Lk. Monroe. Other wise it's held up great.
Sweet deal...other than the one mishap, sounds like you've got a good design.

I've been laying awake nights trying to design this exact thing that you built. Thanks for giving me back my sleep!

originally it was 8'. I cut it down 6" to fit with no overhang off the tail gate so my Ready Ramp, will fit properly. You can make it as long or short as you like.

longer ramps lessen the transition and make it easier on the bottom of the ski. a sharp drop means the ski is harder to get overr the transition and it tears te hel outta the bottom paint or gel coat as it goes over. next mod will put a caster at that point.
