SXR How Lose The Most Weight Possible From Stock Hull

yea after the whole build i wish i used no foam , all that 4lb i have in the back is pretty heavy stuff, plus if water got to it, chances are its dry, i was miticulous about sealing up anything, but the weigh in soon will tell.

I saw your build on PWC. WOW, great stuff!

When you glassed your hood how many layers did you use? How many on the rear deck?
How did you attach the hood to the ski? I saw a x-drilled pin in 1 of your pics. Did you make a special bracket on the hood that mounts over that pin and then strap it down with a Brap Strap? I was thinking of a BS that has the front 2 staps mounted thru the hull about an 1" infront of the hood and coming straight up and over the hood. That would keep it from sliding forward. If I spread the staps wider than the handpole channel that would keep it centerd too. What do you think?
Here is a rough drawing.

What is the final hull length? -4" ?

By leaving the rear without foam don't you run the risk of a sunken ski?

After replying to your thread a few days ago, I figured I had better get prepped on completing my SXR diet. Step 1, weigh the ski. I was thinking it would come in around 380lbs but 410lbs.. Whaaaaat???? That is with the hood even thought he pic does not have it installed.

SXR-FOREVER

Finally Flippin
that billet fuel cap is atleast 10 pounds haha

water in that big ass SXR waterbox, pipe etc will also add ALOT when weighing. when I weighed mine after I pulled everything and put it back in dry was still 381. Heavy pigs they are.

That is a lot but like forever said there may be water in your box. 30lbs I don't think so maybe 3-5. Do you have a fire extinguisher under the hood? As for the rear styrofoam mine was slightly damp but the water it held was negligible.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
Mine wasn't stock to begin with had pipe, flame arrestor and ttl flywheel.

What are your plans? De-gluing the back as well?

Good luck with the diet.

That weight was with about 1/3 full gas tank, fire extinguisher, battery, and water in the waterbox. Currently have a wetpipe, head, and lightened stock flywheel. Oh, the tool kit was also installed (that thing has saved me many times and will always ride with it in the hull) and all side bumpers were removed with 3m automotive trim in it's place. I do not think I am going to open up the back end. That will be way to much work for the weight loss. Here is what I am planning
1. Cut bottom out of battery tray. Swiss cheese the sides
2. Swiss cheese the exhaust holder
3. light weight battery
4. Aftermarket waterbox
5. Tom21 lightweight hood
5. Remove glue
6. Mount CDI to the firewall
7. Possibly run aluminum engine cradle
8. Add X2 trim setup
9. Remove back bond line and cut tray for trim nozzle
10. Remove all blowsion bling and put stock plastic caps back on.

That is all off the top of my head right now. I will be happy if I come up around 30lbs weight loss on this. I am a small guy and only weigh 140lbs. I will should feel the difference with 30lbs lost.

So where will all this get you? lightening makes the SXR handle worse IMO.. I did lots of these mods, spent a lot of time and cash, I even had an 8lbs trinity hood on there, and i made a ski that wasnt really a good freestyle machine and wasnt really a good race boat. Its fun but it never really felt capable like my SJ.. But kudos for trying to making what you have work. But the number #1 question is what is your goal, have a hacked up -30lbs lighter SXR or a competent freestyle ski. SXRs as is are fine for tearing up the lake..

Hey all, I'm new here.
I'm also on the path to a lighter SXR. I'm wondering how to mount the CDI to the firewall. I took it off and took off the bracket but i see no mounting points on the firewall itself. did you guys drill through the hull??? Can anyone post pics of how they did theirs.
