The Good Old Days
Last summer when I was looking for footholds it seamed that only River Rat was happy to recommend WaderDawg products. He was ridiculed to a point where he actually decided to take a brake from this site but luckily for the X community chose to return and contribute.
There even was a thread where I got bashed for choosing Jeff's product but since I was new to the whole drama I just turned it into a joke (for me anyway).

Not even a year later it seems that Jeff has gained many more supporters and I'm sure his prices played a large role in that.

So, is that bad business or bad for the sport when we are witnessing the birth of a new industry giant ?

I am a nobody in this whole freestyle thing so the more experienced riders opinions are important to me. However I do have a mind of my own and can decide for my self.

I say let the products speek for themselves. I use alot of different people just like I use alot of different products. Everybody has something they do better than the next guy. Just like there are different brands of products that when used in conjunction complement each other.

Well, keep in mind that while you FL guys know people that ride standups that dont go here, I am the only person I know of in my state that even owns a standup, I have NEVER seen one on the water, and I'm out every day in the summer, be it fishing, boating or jet skiing. I wonder why they're so hot in Michigan?

BTW, I feel like I just walked into an episode of "The Real World".

you must live under a rock, i can name atleast 5 people that leave in your state and ride stand ups. most of them are racers so they are not riding at the local spot but they are stand up riders and they do live in your state

i guess you have to be careful with the wording of things to protect the image of the company. Just like in any other industry, you dont see chevy saying publicly that ford trucks are sh*******ty. maybe we should have a review system such as like the motortrend thing for cars.

I forgot you were in VA, Do you know of anyone else in MD thats relatively close to the bay bridge like severn or south or magothy or chester river?

BTW: patuxtent is near a five-six hour drive booking it a 50 mph by boat in light chop at about 3 hours by car at least, just a little far.
Not sure of who's up that way, I know some of the Junkies are in Northern Virginia and Southern, MD but not exactly sure which towns. Try to come on down here sometime and ride with us over a weekend. Door's always open. We're going to OC MD in July to ride with Mike. Maybe you can make it there.

I know we're all trying to promote the sport and preserve it, but since when do you walk in to your favorite store (or not your favorite) and debate with your buddies in public about the business methods they choose? I'm not even sure why there's discussion about this. I was under the assumption most of you FL guys had more to do then sit at home and wrench while the water warms up. The point of owning a sole proprietorship is that it is sole meaning one... whats wrong with offering a couple 'march madness' deals? The only thing Im mad about is that I paid 30 bucks more for my holds then I could of.

McDonalds sold chicken Mcnuggets for 3.39 for a 20 piece if you used a coupon last week. WTF is up with that? Someone should sue. Their coffee is too hot as well, lets complain.

The internet is the best place known to man to snowball issues. I'm still amazed that this is even on the table for discussion.

So anyways, hmmm, mabye I'll be at the next Wave Junkies ride, it would be nice to ride with people not on a 900 lb FX for once. OC is cool, two hours isnt bad at all, July is good as well. If you can remember lemme know when in advance! My job already has the schedule out to July. I know some people out in MD OC I can get a condo full 2 bed (1 queen two single), bath, kitchen for a few nights cheap. I've always wanted to ride in OC didnt know where it was legal, and where some good spots are.

We'll be at the Eagle's Nest campground 13-16 July.

Time will tell.

I AM NOT bringing this up to throw mud in anyone's face, but I would like to point to a thread from approxiamately a year and a half ago from pwctoday that has some familiar names singing different tunes than they are now. I respected their opinions and when I met Steve for the first time at the first build-off, I understood why everyone spoke so highly of him and his products. What happened?

It's sad, really. I haven't just changed my opinion of Steve because someone offered a cheaper alternative, finally started delivering products, and is now set to "put others out of business." Everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon because of price and personal vendettas.

I remember when I first found pwctoday and was learning about all these aftermarket companies and what they had to offer. I was overwhelmed by all the cool things available and made a decision to buy from WCF should I ever have the ability and opportunity to do so, based partly on these guys' input. Now I find myself defending my position to the same guys who influenced my decision. Ironic, isn't it? :soapbox:

Flush, ive been following this thread silently, and I didnt see anyone bashing WCF or anything of the sort. Whats obviosly happening is a new company is offering an *as tested so far*, great quailty hoods at a great low price. To answer why everyone pushed his product so hard many years ago, Steve rode with a bunch of guys on the site every weekend, so ya of course we all pushed our buddies product. Now he has a great product and buisiness going, but for many different reasons, the spirit of that old riding group no longer exists and the product push you used to read no longer exists but within a couple people. I dont know if it explained my thoughts well enough, but thats a small part of my take on things.

:haha:

funny, it does seem like those "ride all year" guys spend alot of time on subjects such as these.

and how do you plan on making that objective? motortrend has been around for god knows how long and they are pretty much the industry standard for car magazines and what not.

i thought this site was created to help further the sport but now it just seems like it's driving people apart. its the same bs that brought down the other site by some of the same people. business is business and competition is what drives innovation.

look at the automotive aftermarket. there are a bunch of customization shops and "tuners" as you call them. you have people like roush, steeda, saleen, EvoMS.

they all do the same thing and you don't see them at each others throat.why? because they have an established client and customer base and a loyal following. they know people will keep coming to them because of the products and services they provide. it's the added value that keeps the customer coming back to them for the next new and exciting thing.

only when the customers start to go to the others do you see the bad mouthing and bashing. hell imitation is the sincerest form of flatterly. you'd be surprised how many aftermarket parts companies are producing knock offs of mainstream produced products

i look at this as objectively as i can because i don't ride a stand up, don't freestyle or freeride. now i am just:banghead: because i see a sport that has given me so many friends that i would do just about anything for pull itself apart because of competition. if anything it should make you step your game up and rise to the occasion. if someone raises the bar, come back and set it that much higher with your products instead of bashing, bad mouthing and wasting page after page of bandwith over some mindless bull$hit.

that is all, good night

Actually Crammit 442 told me about both this site and PWCT,I know of very few standup riders in my area.It is a shame I have watched this site grow in this short time and I guess the best way to describe what is going on here is that the site is having growing pains.Hopefully it will all get sorted out shortly.

agreed.

one thing that still needs some explaining......

steves products have only gotten BETTER since then.

so, why the bashing of his products now?

were the ones bashing his stuff now LYING before? or?????

Well, I suppose I could be blinded by the rock I am under, but I am in multiple local riding spots near the Bay bridge daily in the summer, and spring (rockfish calls). I've just never seen another standup, ever, and thats at the ramps, on the road, at houses. Ok, well I did see one, but I bought it because the guy was 'consolidating'

I'll admit to an old 550 or two in a few ghetto's I've strolled through, but certainly no SXR's to be seen here boss.

23 people on my creek own jetskis. Out of that 23, 19 of them own two. Again out of that 23, 22 of the owner's own all couches, and one person (me) own's two SJ's. So statiscally thats like what 5% of the skis are standups. That percentage is an awe-stammering 0% to my knowledge in both my adjacent creeks. It's cool though, I love getting the funny looks at the gas dock "Is that custom made?"
