Other How to Add Air to a Rickter?

When you need more than what the poles can breath, how do you add air?
I have an XFR, but I imagine this question applies to all. I ride the ski surf and flat water.

RRP Hood Scoop?
I'm not actually sure how it installs or if I really want it on my hood. I like stranding on my hood, messing around, and think I may break it. Also worried about how water dumps in here.

Holes in Dash?
Do people drill holes in there dash and put those frog skin things over them to keep water out?

Other Ideas?
Whats works well....

Looking for more air, put 2 - 1 inch clam breathers on the back of my hood with tubs running to front of the ski. Considering a scoop but wondering if anyone else got creative and wants to share more ideas.

I would add the RRP scoop. I didn't order a hood scoop with our XFS, but after feeling how much it sucked the hood down when you barely blip the throttle I added one.

It's pretty easy to install. I moved it around on the hood and found the right spot for it. I cut a 4" hole that lined up with scoop and where I wanted it in the engine compartment.

I traced the scoop on the hood and roughed up 1/4" surface the scoop would sit on. I bought a 4" hose adapter off eBay and added it to the hole to finish it off and have something to add the aproximatly 1' long hose to the underside of the hood.

Then I epoxied the scoop on and added another 1" to the pad so the pole wouldn't hit the scoop.

We don't ride surf, just flat-water, but we get very little water in the hull from the scoop. If the ski goes upside down the hose keeps the water from flowing into the hull, just like a stock SJ or SXR.

When does a person need a scoop. My 1100 dasa breathes just fine with the factory pole breathers.

I'm no expert, but I wanted to know the answer to that same question. I fired up our Dasa 1000 on the trailer and unlatched the hood. I put a few fingers between the hood and the ski and blipped the throttle. I was shocked at how hard it pulled the hood down and smashed my fingers. That test proved to me it wanted more air than it was getting thru the pole.

Air pressure is wild. 1 psi across that hood would probably cut your finger off.

Not a good way to tell. I tell by the crispness of the low end. You can totally tell a fat ski. And if in doubt. Pop the latch and ride it a blip. If it improves. Your starving for air or putting too much fuel. Too much fuel would mean you could probably do more air tho.

Shiny air compressors is all

So a typical Rickter hood scoop can fit 4 tubes down it. Gomez’s new ninja v2 has 2 pole breathers, 4 hood scoop tubes and 2 tubes on the rear bulkhead.
Adding air is probably one of the best upgrades you can do.

One of the best things I recently done was add scoop, easiest mod I done.

XFS 2014 comp
Xscream XS900R
Rrp carbon wet pipe
FS49’s
Total loss

Worth doing…

I'm gonna a ride mine with the hood off when the rain clears up since people are saying it makes a big difference. Would be free power basically if so

My xfr had these breather holes plugged and the guy had a hose under the hood. Seems cleaner and easier than the hood scoop on top. Idk

I'm not rocket scientist by any means but something tells me that only running pole breathers with a 900+ engine seems like no where near enough air.
I always did the math. The size of the intake holes on the carb vs the size of the intake holes on the pole. Air doesn't have a ton of resistance. The hood leaks. And I just blip the throttle. If the pressure drops, more fuel will be introduced. It's a really basic concept. I'm not saying that a rickter or other ski won't benefit from more air. I just have mine tuned titties and don't feel air is a problem. Maybe ill pop that hood and be lean. We will see. Ill.be super stoked if so and not afraid to report back

I have an 1100

How would you add for the flex tube that goes inside the tubes and the cables, wires going through the pole and also the fact that the fled tubes make close to a 90 degree bend at the pole bracket? It may not matter as much on free style ski where you're not running wide open much just blipping the throttle with very short wot bursts. I'd be curious how much itll change your tune.

Fresh build: I have a Dasa 970 with dual 46s-Edge FR. The deal is it has a Blowsion pole (does not let much air in). I cracked the hood and after feeling how much it sucked the hood down when you blip the throttle it confirmed to me it could use more air. I am considering drilling a couple 1 to 1.5 inch holes in the Blowsion handle pole for more air flow and cover with Frogskinz . Has anyone done this and if so what location on the handle pole. I consider the hood scoop.. but also ride the surf… really do not want to do the scoop.

Could you tell a performance increase with before and after hood install
