There is a joke with the STL crew.... Use a playground ball wedged under the pole. Then when you mess up and push the pole down too far it comes shooting out and hits you in the junk.

What kind is it? i dont really care for the ones with all the funky breaks in the top of it.

Ummm .. I can't tell you. I was told it was an AC pole when I got my ski but Bk told me it was a UMI. Either way it is a custom pole now. I didn't like the bends in the top either.. So I got rid of them. I had the stock length pole cut 2" and rewelded at the bottom so that it would lay flat in the hood and then at the top where the bends were I cut 2 inches out of it there and then had it rewelded so that the turn plate lays flat instead of angled down like the stockers do. It matches the angle of the hood in the back and raises the bars up to where they should be instead of where they are after a pole is modified. It lays nice and flat in the hood now. Just like it is suppose to. Here are some pictures of when I had the pole cut down and how it lays now. One picture shows the top so you can determine what kind of pole it is. I have no clue. But It has a block in the bottom so that you can run a spring but I have a 2.5 inch pole breather and like mine stiff anyhow. I can get you more pictures if you want.

i am gonna have to pass for now thanks though. I am really thinking of ridding this a few more times to see if i get used to it and if not getting a stocker and cutting it down,

You'll get used to it. And after a while you won't even notice that you have to pull it up and then it stays there. Tighten that thing down so it stays where you put it. I don't have mine tight enough that it stays when you do a no handed jump but it won't move without input.

What length if yours. I want to buy one but don't want to have to modify it so it lays flat. I hate the arch in the stock ones after they are shortened. Look at the difference before you buy a stock one The pictures are dark but you can see the alum pole verses a -4 inch stock one.

first picture is the aluminum pole and 2nd is the stock pole. Won't ever have a stocker again.

Do it twice?That's DooDoo
I have tried a few stock poles after riding with my xmetal all year so far.... I could barely ride with the stock pole! I remember the xmetal was weird for the 1st ride or two, but after that it was sooooo nice!

I tightened my bolts down after soaking them in acetone and then a generous application of red loctite.... I tightened them with my biggest wrench pretty much as hard as I could... it was super tight at first.... I had to push it up and down with force for a number of times... it moves a lot easier now, but it still stays wherever I put it. Give it a chance... you will get used to it I think...

this is killing me......... I have raced my SJ with the XMetal with no spring.... Follow the install instructions, use red loctite..... the pole will run neutral if you install it correctly.

mark,

that was my setup last year a blowsion spring -3" and tight bolts to where it stays put, I like that it stays put but you also dont have to try and throw your back out to lift the thing.

don't you guys with tight poles find it annoying when you fall off and the ski is laying on its side with the pole sticking out and then you have to climb back on. The skis I have rode were frustrating. its one more step to get back on. / \

I guess its a preference thing.
ive ridden 2 skis with fixed poles, and I didnt like either.

I am leaning toward Mark44's setup, fairly tight pole and stiff spring.

the best of both in my opinion.
