How To: Shorten your stock pole -PICS-

D-Roc

I forgot!
The shorter you go the tighter you may need the pole. My pole is tight, i don't have to hold it up, it holds me. Something to think about trying if your pole is feeling to short.

I just finished the pole shortening, dirt simple, I'll let the crap setup tonight and slap everything back together tomorrow night. Took all of 3 1/2 hrs.
Cheers Ray

Thanks to the OP for the great write-up as well as the other suggestion in the thread. I shorted my pole -3" and fastened with SS button head cap screws/nylock nuts. After riding the ski I feel I have a lot more control in surf stance. I do however think that my foot holds might be a little too far back in my tray. When I'm locked into both of them the nose of the ski rides quite high.

perhaps an unsavvy Question: What needs to be done to the steering cable (if anything) after shortening the pole?

Very nice post, I am thinking of shortening my pole aswel, but I have the same question.
How difficult is it to reconnect de steering and throttle cable? Does this need a lot of tuning?
Someone answered it doesn't change anything, but I find that hard to believe (Sorry :) ) If someone can explain me?

Thanks

Nothing youll have more of steering cable in engine bay, if anything youll have to re route it around motor

just a tip to clean out that base aluminum brack, i used a torch to light the fiber glass on fire. poop came right out with a chisel and was able to pull it all out smooth then clean it up with a chisel.

You guys that are doing this with bolts are you running a long bolt all the eay through the pole? Like nut on bottom of pool, top of bolt on top? Or are you putting a nut in the middle of the foam? Not clear to me. Anyone have pics of how you did the bolts?

Started on mine. Old thread i know but have a question. The 2 vent hoses that go into the pole. One goes to gas tank, where doea the other go? Just down into hull is where i found it... awesome thread tho, was a lot of help. Just gotta go get glue and bolts and put it back together.

You prolly already dealt with this but one is to the gas tank and the other was to the stock battery vent.
