Super Jet Hull options

I would like to change somethings on my superjet. I currently have a 2004 superjet, lots of bolt ons but stock hull (including destroyers).

The tray is currently my primary concern. I currently have all stock tray with lifter wedges. I was strongly considering BOB holds with a Tom21 front extinguisher holder. Also turf, paint / wrap, lowered hood, etc.

I don't have to do any of this. All of my parts could be transferred to something else. I'm unsure if I should just upgrade what I have or go to a different hull. Spending $500+ on my tray will make my ski worth probably $0 more.

My riding style is important. I am a recreational rider. I surf, flat, cruise, *race* etc. I just got my wife a SXR. A BOB, DVX, Backie chan, or any other purpose built hull with a rocker is probably not for me. I also do not believe a SXR is right for me.

The only aftermarket hull that I have seen (although have not ridden), is an earlier model superfreak. Also a 2008+ Superjet seems promising. A lightweight SXR might also be a choice but I don't think I want to go to a bigger hull. I am more open to options since I started having back issues. I would be looking to buy a good condition used hull, as $5000+ for a hull is probably not in the budget.

I am currently leaning toward trying to find a 2008+ hull with BOB holds. I am leaning so hard towards the bobs because, most of the time, I would not even have the holds in it.

Any suggestions for me? Build thread in my sig.

I did all sorts of tray mods to my ski. I've been pretty happy with it. The only thing I'm not a fan of are the krash footholds. If I were to do it again I'd go with rickter holds. I've messed with the bob holds, they are nice but I have found that they don't stay adjusted properly. The bob holds loosen up pretty easily.

Here is my build thread if you want some ideas.

If you have tubbies on your ski already, why bother going to an 08+ hull?

Setback pump, deeper chines. The 08+ and 07- with destroyers do not handle the same in my opinion.

I don't disagree with keeping my ski as an option, but over the next year or 2, if I do my tray, wrap and hood, I'm looking at $2000ish in mods.

You sound like a perfect candidate for a wdk rok, I am a mostly recreational rider, and it works perfect for all around riding.

I wouldn't buy from WDK but I'd be shopping used so that shouldn't be a problem. I;ve heard of the ROK but I'm not familiar. I'll look into that.

This looks very nice, but probably more than I would be looking to spend. Maybe I could find something nice in glass and move my stuff to. Looks SXR based too. I'd want to stay with a Yamaha setup. I've ridden lots of Kawis that make good power, but none that make the power the way I like. Pole that short would not be for me.

Not in the market right now, but I need to have an idea of a budget for a larger purchase in the future.

Nothing against Xmetal, but the KDX is not for me. Not interested in anything that short. The -3 envy on WDKs website looks very nice.

You'll be able to race and freeride with a Bullet SXR imo. Not sure about placing a Yami engine though. Possibly replace the motor mount locations. The ROK definitely will do everything good, but not sure about great. Not an ideal race hull against full length SXR's. Has proven extremely capable and durable in flat, rec and freeride/surf. Tough to get a hull that does everything great and there has been an increase in hull options in the past few years. You'll find something, I personally like the Bullet Gen 1 and the ROK as "do all" hulls with the ROK leaning more towards full rec riding, the Bullet leaning towards bouy. Good luck and have fun

Are you going to be able to race with the SXR guys on any freeride hull?

I never said anything about a freeride hull.

I have been trying to be very very clear that I am NOT looking for a purpose built hull. So far, the best aftermarket suggestion seems to be the ROK, which got me to look at the - 3 ENVY.

Well if you're looking to still run buoys and be competitive, but don't like the SXR maybe just throw some holds in your current hull and call it a day.
If you want a more playful "all around" hull that is still capable of running a buoys course, then yes, a Vision hull can do that IMO. The Vision isn't an extreme rocker hull. I have a full length, glass Vision and it rides really well. It dose have a rockered nose on it, but i wouldn't call the main running surfaces as "extreme rockered" If I keep my hull I'll prolly cut a minimum of 4" off the year to match the current -4 option in that hull.
