It appears to be just me, but I will take a BEAST ass engine in a superjet hull at this point in my riding over any AM hull. I have been riding 3 years...I'd rather ride a superjet than any other hull. Maybe I will feel different once I get better, but the pre 08 bottom deck is a good fit for me.
Any am hull? So youve tried them all? what didnt you like about a superfreak or a trinity carbon sxr? Aquabot and chan and rickters are all amazing with smaller motors than what it takes to push a stock hull around.

But if you only ride surf....I would agree.

At this point I can't imagine anyone choosing a motor over a hull if the choice is between the 2.....AM hulls are kick arse!!!!

Yeah, surfs a different animal though. I love my Matrix in the surf but have to admit that I also really enjoyed my Wife's 07 SJ this past weekend. I haven't ridden a SJ for more than a few minutes in the last 3 years and thoroughly enjoyed it for an entire day testing out her new pump setup. In all fairness though, her SJ is about as done as they come as it used to be my primary surf ski.

If I was told tomorrow that all I was going to ride for the next few years was flatwater, I would immediately start thinking about selling both skis and getting different hulls. Either that or a big azz engine.

I'm curious what hulls you have tried out and why you didn't like them. Also what do you consider a BEAST of an engine? A 1200cc engine isn't really a comparable upgrade to an AM hull.

Wasn't about being a comparable upgrade. For me it was more about y fight poor hull geometry for what I want to do. Stock hull with 1200 engine may flip but u are more reliant on power. 650 with factory pipe and Ada head and maybe a carb upgrade u are using hull and technique to learn tricks. Not relying on power. But this is just my opinion

Would you ever build a kit car?
Does it make sense to go to the most expensive steakhouse in town to order a salad?
How about buying a 60" TV but only paying for basic cable?

Go for broke, buy em both!

If you can only afford one when it is that time Would you choose to run a big motor in your old stock hull or by a nice hull and run a stock setup in it? Just wondering what everyone's opinion is.
Your question is too vague unless you just want to be like everyone else. What do YOU want to do ???

Of course I haven't tried them all dude..? lol. Have you tried every single AM hull ever made? Did you get to do hand stuff with every girl in the world before you got married?

Any AM hull I've tried I'd rather get back on my superjet and steal their engine while they grab gas for their 2 gallon tank...lol. (that was a joke, don't start a sidebar now about how there are 40 ways to fit a 5 gal tank in thisorthat hull)..

I am totally freeride and no flatwater...maybe if I had an AM hull I had like 4 hours on I'd be more motivated to get in to that.

I have tried about 6 or 7 AM hulls now, some multiple times. Someone I ride with put it best to me recently after switching skis...going from oem hull to the aftermarket offerings is CULTURE SHOCK. And that makes total sense to me.

But to answer your question honestly: the biggest engine I've rode is a 900cc jetworks and it was magical. I liked the longer hulls more than the short ones, with longer poles. The shortened sxr style was the hardest for me to ride comfortably. The short superjets i had a hell of a time trying to get it hooked up and gain speed. I like the longer versions of both bottom deck styles A LOT.

Baby steps I guess? But it's entirely valid for the intermediate level rider on an oem to prefer to get an engine that could allow him to ride in double time on the same boat!

i'd go hull for sure. if you blow up a million dollar motor, its bank to fix. if you crack an egg shell hull, its a few bucks in glass stuff to be back out there. it wont be pretty but who cares
Yeah..i didnt think about the investment involved with the engine. A hull is much quicker and cheaper to fix. Maybe i would go hull over engine. Hmm. I def would need tons more ride time on hulls before choosing

Oh I already made my choice. I would always rather have a setup chassis over an engine. I brough most of my thought process to this from race cars. So I wondered what freestyle jetski guys thought process was.

Also after wave rave I had a ton more fun on the hulls I could actually take a minute to learn and control. The xscream 1000 just kept trying to rip itself out from under me before I could actually get omfortable with the hull. So any trick uwould have managed or any jump was purely pull the throttle and pray. Which I feel is a horrible idea

A car doesnt have to plane to go over 15MPH. Carefully consider the size and weight of the hull and rider. Many of the short boats struggle with larger riders.
