Custom/Hybrid Hydro turfing my ski

I had just gotten my ski back from paint and i need to turf my ski. Its a custom wamiltons hull with footholds. Not sure what kind of footholds they are but my question is does anyone know any places or people that will turf your ski that are around the Illinois area?

You got this! Just take your time, heat gun is your friend and makes turfing a pretty easy really... Heat it up and it gets super soft and forms around those footholds nicely!

Im really not even sure if i have to buy the turf in sheets or if i can get a hydro turf kit that blowsion sells. A pre cut kit would seem so much easier but im not sure if my tray in this ski is the same as a stock superjet. Or even close and i could just do some trimming. Ill post pics of the ski so u guys can see

Having done it both ways, I'd go with a sheet instead of pre-cut

Definitely by a sheet and make sure you pay the extra 20-30$ for the PSA on the back. It makes it sooo much easier to install than using the weldwoods glue that smells horrible. The 42x 80 something sheet is more then enough to do the whole ski, chin pad and some on the hood so the straps dont rub the paint and i still had a bunch left over.

I have not been on the x for very long but i have seen alot of these threads and after doing a few turfjobs myself, it is clear that EVERYONE is right use a heat gun take your time measure 20 times before cutting, get a sheet and have fun. Patience, patience, patience, prep, prep, prep. The last turf job I did I heated up the turf and molded is so well is made it all a breeze.

do you guys get the sheets with the PSA on the back from hydro turf? also should i just sand the tray smooth and then stick the sheet on? Ive never done this before to a ski. What about the foam that goes under the turf? Do you guys use the foam?

i just installed a mat set on my challenger boat, pre cut with psa and it was simple

not sure id want to use the psa on a ski though as it takes more abuse

if you get the mat set it will probbaly come with 9mm underlay

other wise grab a sheet and a 9mm underlay - make sure you get the plush its much better

I think i would much rather use the PSA though as i did with my Honda r-12x. It did have foam under the turf before so i wasnt sure. Im just trying to make this as easy as possible

I still use the contact cement method.
Turfing is one of those things that very few people are good at their first time. The more skis you do the better you will get.
