cant you just run a wire from the positive terminal on the battery to the positive bolt on the starter? You should be able to snake your arm in there without removing the exhaust.

guiness92-If I am not mistakin, I think we have cut the starter out of the problem since I did not get any sparks when I bridged the soloniod.

Good call SFL, I have seen several of the main ground wires go bad, especially if the boat is from salt water. Do like SFL says and try it. Also you should be getting 12v at the red wire on one side of the solenoid. Get a Volt Ohm meter and you can do alot of troubleshooting with it if the ground wire thing does not solve your problems.

It could be the starter. If the commutator is worn, or if the brushes are bad the it could cause the problems you are having too. We are still working towards that with this troubleshooting process. Be patient.:banghead:

It just seems like alot of this stuff would instantely go bad....It had done this once before, my parents held down the starter and shook the wires from the start/stop switch...It actually started..And has been starting for about 2 trips to the lake. Now its doing the SAME thing....I think that it started the first time, because they were Holding the start button down, not because they shook wires.

Don't you mean watts?? You either need a 12v test light like the ones used in automotive repair or better yet you NEED a Volt Ohm Meter. Go to Autozone and get both. You are getting to the point where you need the proper tools to do this right. Otherwise you are back to guessing.

Good call, will they have one at walmart? I ll go get one now if they do...Yes I mean Watts...I can't think 100% right now...lol...

The two wires are very tight, like it came from the factory, Now I have not wire brushed them...I don't think its corroded or anything, as it is a freshwater boat....I ll use some sand paper on it, but I ll be back, going to walmart....Do you know what section it will be in...Automotive?

You cannot use a regular light bulb, they are rated at 25, 40, 60 watts at 120v. They would not even glow at 12v, Walmart might have a meter or a test light. I have actually been to the Ruston Walmart a few years ago while working in that area and bought a cool fiberglass screwdriver that has a neodmium magnet to hold the bits. It kicks azz, I still use it.

i did say 12v light right????

i didnt say 120v.

if you can find a 12volt (not 120 volt) test light at walmart, thatll work if they dont have a meter.

he gonna be even more pissed when a shytti $35 walmart battery leaves him stranded on the water. dont cheap out with your ski's battery!
