BIG vice - mounted to the left-hand side of a HEAVY workbench. Heat if needed. Cheater bar if needed..... but...

***The absolute key, I've found, is a closed-end, tight fitting, 6-point (or 12-point is OK too) wrench on the impeller tool. NO Crescent wrenches or even open-end

I never had trouble for years (even using a crescent wrench), but recently started crushing or deforming EVERY DAMN impeller tool - solas or skat - that I used. Closed end wrenches solved the problem!

Hitch mounted holder is sweet BTW!

I absolutely agree on the closed wrench. I have destroyed several prop tools before I figured that out and not one since. Getting a hitch tool because it is a perfect idea. Thanks blaster800!

when your in the field, use a vice grip on the shaft holder tool. wedge the vice grip under your trucks tire, and then reaf on the impeller clockwise to remove. my 25yr old waverunner impeller came off in about 30 seconds. when they go back on use anti sieze. or torque to half the recommended setting.

Vise on the left side of the bench is the best advice I've heard yet.

My vise is on the right at home.

If I have a tricky one I bring it to work with me. I put the driveshaft Into an old midshaft and strap that down to a pipe vise with a chain for cutting pipe. It's at the perfect height and supports the shaft in the middle too.

Allows you to pull down on the wrench with a breaker bar instead of pushing up like a vise on the right side of the bench.

Any of the hard ones I have gotten off using this method.

However I did have a brand new prop get stuck on a skat setback shaft once. They swore up and down it was my install, or not greasing, bla bla bla. Truth is for a made in America product they use sh it quality stainless and the threads gall up upon removal.

One year at the NY freeride I got schooled in how to do it....tons of heat!! Now that I know that..... combined with Franks genius invention...and my new Jeep having no welded in receiver.... I should have no more issues.

View attachment 230913View attachment 230914 I made a couple of these , it fits your reciever and goes wherever you are , no vice needed ''' but fits the vice too '' this does not allow the driveshaft to flex up and down at all ,allowing all the torque to go straight to the prop and threads . has not failed to do the job yet !

What? No ODI grip?!
LOL great idea, and on the spot prop change made easy. Very nice!

I use a sacrificed raider midshaft with 2 sides ground down smooth to keep it from spinning in the vice. Hitch tool idea is pimp
