This practice has got to end! Why do you people insist on sending personal payments? You strip the entire transaction of all your personal protection and limit the seller on shipping options. The Paypal shipping tool is very helpful and saves sellers like me time and money. It also offers up options and features not available thru the standard website. Not to mention that if a seller gets flagged for too many personal payments, they get penalized and charged on all transactions regardless.

For me the biggest irritation is the time lost. What should take 2-3 minutes to process takes 5-10 and sometimes, like last night, 45 minutes with nothing to show for my efforts. I'm not sure what your time is worth but 45 minutes of my time is far more valuable than 3% in Paypal seller fees. A few minutes here and there don't sound like much but 10 minutes is alot of time when I leave my house every morning at 4:30am and process a majority of my shipments in the morning. I pass by a USPS depot and drop off all packages on my way so you can all enjoy super fast shipment.

This may sound harsh but from this day forward, unless prior arrangement has been made, I will refund all personal payments, thus delaying your shipment. If you find this unacceptable, I will completely understand. If this makes you shop somewhere else, this too is acceptable to me. I simply do not currently have the spare time to waste processing orders because you cannot check one box, nor are the paypal fees going to hurt my bottom line.

That's it. Feel free to discuss. Feel free to flame. Feel free to offer up your expert advise on shipping or agree with me 100%.

I have recently decided to no longer send personal paypals as well because of lack of protection. I'm sure most thought they were saving you a few bucks, but it just isn't worth the hassles.

I'm slowly (but surely) firing paypal entirely.

I admittedly still make the occasional purchase through paypal, but I avoid it when possible. When did waiting a couple of days become such a big deal anyway?

If you click THIS then you can create a shipment label the same way you would when things are purchases as a "good".

All through paypal and everything. Only disadvantage is you take to take a quick minute to fill in there information. In all honestly, it takes prob 1-2 more minutes, and saves you a couple bucks.

Prior to figuring this out, I hated when shipments were sent as a "gift" because I had to go down to the post office and wait in line to send first class mail or what not. Now it's as easy as can be.

I use it all the time, even when sending things that have nothing to do with paypal. Way better than messing around with USPS's CRAZY WEBSITE and the lack of shipping options.

USPS isn't the problem. In fact USPS is pretty sleek these days. It's UPS that's the problem. I spent 90 minutes between yesterday and today trying to ship an item for the cost that I am used to. I have shipped several of the same large packages for between $16 and $20 but couldn't ship this last one for anything less than $36.

I refunded the sellers payment and had them resend it. I was able to print shipping for $22 in less than 3 minutes of receiving the payment.

The systems are in place to make all of this easier for us. We just have to get in the habit of utilizing them correctly.

I just never liked USPS's website because I couldn't make first class shipments online with USPS's website. I have no experience dealing with UPS and creating labels online. I've always found USPS to be a more cost effective alternative lately.

Glad it worked out in the long run. I guess send your buyer a reminder to NOT send as gift.

I've had sellers request me to send payment as a gift.

But as a seller, both as a regular guy selling stuff on forums and whatnot, and as a business person, I try to meet my customers' needs. I'd rather not lose future business because I am more difficult to deal with than the competition.

I agree, as a buyer most of the time sending personal payments is nerve-wracking and I only ever send them to people who have an established reputation here. I'd rather the seller add 3% if its such a big deal, because i'll gladly pay it for some peace of mind.

If buyers make payments for goods then you get an option for first class mail. I know because I ship most of my switches in small bubble wrap envelopes this way. I have to keep a bunch of stamps on hand for occasions when they pay as a gift.

I don't believe this is more difficult, it's just education and one additional check box on the transaction. This actually has as much if not more benefit to the buyer because it offers full buyer protection. How many threads have you read lately where the buyer is SOL because he sent payment as a gift?

I have said it before and I'll say it again. Paypal fees are a part of doing business online. Fees should be incorporated into all pricing. If a buyer sends payment in a fashion that doesn't net any fees then the seller is actually ahead.

I said USPS's website. Not Paypal. Also, you don't have to have stamps on hand. Just click the link I gave you, plug in their information. Plus in their e-mail address and it will be no different than if they sent you money as a non gift. You even get the free or .19 cent delivery confirmation incase anyone tries to dispute you or you need to track progress.

Okay, what am I missing? That link takes me to Paypal and I see no options for shipping.

Sorry, must have pasted it in there wrong. I guess I couldn't just C&P from browser bar. Try this "HERE"

Once you click the link, it will make you log in, then it brings you to the exact same screen as if you click "Create Shipping Label" in paypal. The only difference again, is the fact that you manually have to type in the customers information (First, Last, Street, City, State, Zip and optional e-mail) to create the label. Otherwise, exactly the same as any other way of creating a label.

I have it book marked on my computer, but if I'm on another I google "Create shipping label with paypal" and click the hit, by www.genuineseller.com which has a link to paypal.

I think it's a hidden feature in paypal; I have not yet been able to find a way to get to it without this link by just navigating through paypal menus.

I've almost been trained that most sellers want the money gifted to avoid the pp fees.

Im a fan of JetManiac, who quotes the price shipped plus pp fee.

Well the new thing sellers do now is what started the problem... "PLEASE ADD 3% OR SEND THE PAYMENT AS A GIFT"

Most buyers will just send as a gift to avoid the fee, however as a seller you should be building in all costs into your price beforehand. Don't agree to a price, then tack on 3% more because you didn't ask enough.

I do more buying than selling and my general rule is anything over $100 I refuse to send payment as a gift. I have learned my lesson. Nothing gets your nerves going like sending $1000 plus as a gift to some one. I don't care how good of a reputation that person may have as a seller or buyer.

I can understand from a business perspective providing the buyer with a choice on payment to generate a sale, save a few bucks on fees and offer products at a lower price... but like others have said just add the fees into your costs. I'm not calling anyone out but from personal experience I have noticed some sellers on here that will say add 3% or send payment as a gift after the first email requesting info on their product, even though I'm a first time customer and never communicated with them before... Some are just relying on the fact they have a good reputation ( which may be the case and well deserved) on the forum to send payment as a gift and that'll you'll trust them. I just think the gifting option is reversed and buyers should approach the sellers if they want to take the risk instead of sellers assuming the buyers will just do it.

Isn't it against PP terms of service for the recipient to request extra money for fees? IMO, the seller should already have that fee factored into price they post, just as any other business does when setting prices.

I for one am tired of sending payments as gifts, the sellers of about 90% of my transactions on here in the past 3 months have made me send as gift. I'm worried that this will bite me in the ass here soon and I'll get burned.

Bingo....

Same as businesses not being able to charge more then the advertised price to customers for using a CC as per the Merchant Processing Aggrement. They can advertise Cash at a discounted price though and this concept should be considered the same for PP vs PP w/ gift option.

Out of the garage dealers that charge more for PP fees are shady IMO. But not gonna make this into another Zeski rant thread.
