If you could go back in time and assist yourself buy your first ski, what advice would you give?

Buy all super chickens .... and be outed as crazy ...till the market changed :) I picked my first ones up for 500 and 700 dollars ..... crazy

Dont go thru the hassle building a freestyle ski , buy a built one .

Buy a used am Hull. Used stroker engine. Don't do footholds or cut a superjet. Don't de foam. Don't reinforce. Just ride. Punch Steinmetz in the face at pismo when you first meet him and see his ski get pissed on

Basically. What was said above. Don't buy into the bs from dumper jumpers who can't flip, roll, and have consistently running skis with loads of tray time.

Buy a used cracked up AM hull, with a rusty stroker motor. Dont worry about condition or if its too short for you. Those things are just too cool for any of that stuff to matter.

Weird how my used hull. And used engine. Have been flawless for season on top of season.

Again. I'd recommend that I listen to people who FLIP, ROLL, AND RIDE A AFTERMARKET HULL CONSISTENTLY with minimal down time.

Surfing the internet, isn't tray time. No matter how hard you want it to be

Sometimes you get lucky. There is a big difference between coaches and players.

Just because a person can flip, roll and ride an aftermarket hill consistently doesn't mean squat as far as their aptitude for building, tuning and maintaining a standup. Their advice is no better than anyone else's except maybe a complete newbie's.

If I could go back in time, I'd tell my younger self to buy extra 10mm sockets, and to not listen to huge blowhards with even huger egos on the internet.

Most kids I see now are more interested in their tattoos than actually learning about skis.

Why do you care what people want to do with their time? I’ve seen you post this exact opinion before, not sure why you think it’s relevant.

For the sake of actually contributing to the thread, I think a Superjet is the go to for a first ski. You can leave it stock or mod it as much as you’d like. Either way you can have just as much fun on a stock Superjet as you can on an aftermarket ski. Sure, they can do different things, but how much fun you are having is up to you. Spending tens of thousands of dollars and riding a couple hours a season might be fun to some people, but riding a cheap reliable ski all summer might be more appealing to others. I’ve heard many people say this on here, ride a Superjet, be happy. Spend less, ride more. That’s my advice.

Being the coolest guy sitting on the beach while everyone else is riding cannot be dismissed.

There are a lot of aftermarket skis out there that are one or two trick ponies , the BOB hull comes to mind right off the bat , not everyone wants to barrel roll and backflip , any ski that I can't hold wide open and ride across the lake I don't want period .
